I've got a 2015 5.7L truck. I've had it since April and have finally noticed something (or it changed). When I first start up the truck the idle is a little erratic, like an old carbureted engine would act. It goes up and down a couple times in RPM (about 500 rpm) for the first 10-15 seconds and then settles down. I first began to notice months ago if I would start it and start driving immediately. The truck would surge as the RPMs surge. Now I realize that it's not a driving issue but truly the RPMs fluctuating.

Is it normal to this extent?

Most of the vehicles I have owned have done this on first startup of the day. I never worried.

Then pay attention to your truck. Your rpms will fluctuate some even on your 5.7.

I did not mean To sound rude. I just re-read what I wrote. My apologies.

I didn't remember my new truck doing this, but my seven month old truck seems to be doing it. I've had many trucks with erratic idles but they were all older.

I suppose some kind of software update at the dealer may correct this...

Mine started doing this at about 10,000 miles / 8-ish months
