What sort of issues with warranty can I expect if I remove the factory pcm and put on one I can tune myself? Also are there any preferred brands out there that I should be using? I haven't looked into it too much but I just don't like the idea of the only people able to work on my truck being the dealer.

Basically the dealership can and will deny you any powertrain warranty for having an unlocked PCM with a tune. One of the first things they will do before performing warranty work on anything in the powertrain is matching the odometer and the pcm. It’ll be an instant red flag that they don’t match.

Buy a PCM and keep your old one. If you have problems. Put the old PCM back in.

This might not work with every problem you have is the PCM records codes.

^^^ The mileage still wouldn't match if they check it. IMHO if you have a low dollar warranty issue the dealer may not do a mileage comparison, but on costly repairs I'm sure the dealership would compare, either on their own or at the direction of FCA. In the end I think if you can afford a tuner and new PCM you should also be able to afford to pay any repair costs associated with any damage caused by the tuner.

Maybe the wire gurus can hook it up that it powers on but does not control anything ,this way it will record the mileage while its connected

Thx for advice yall. I used to work at the dodge dealer I bought my truck from so I might run down there and ask them if they would give me a hard time if I did switch.
