2012 rcsb 5.7, brother has a bad lifter again, and wants to build the engine. nothing crazy but shooting for 425-450 rwhp. The plan is Scoggin-Dickey stage 3 cam, mds delete, e85/93, Kooks LT, stock stroke, may have to bore the block not sure as its still in the truck and will let machine shop decide on that. Do plan on bumping compression up to 11.5. I know there may be piston/valve clearance issues, we will cross that bridge when we get there. and a 2800-3200 stall, but im stuck on a few things...
1) Intake-would an aftermarket be better or the tried and true 6.4? Its going to be a street/strip truck, mostly street with the occasional rip.
2)Heads-I understand that these eagle heads are really good. Is there really any need for porting on a 5.7? maybe dimpling the intake runners and polishing the exhaust?
3) Pistons-is there anything I need to consider or look for on new pistons? valve reliefs? ring lands? No plans on boost and have told him that if he ever does want to do that, he will have to build a different engine. He has mentioned nitrous...I've advised against that because it will need to have a whole other tune.
4) e85/93-With a flex fuel sensor I think we can do this but I'm not sure. I know we will have to do upgraded fuel system, and thats not a big deal either.

Am I missing anything? Been a few years since ive built an engine, last one was an LT1 out of my 95 camaro about 10-12 years ago...Thanks for any and all help and any questions.

What are you plans for a transmission,as that RFE isn't going to last,so don't waste any money sticking a convertor in it.Budget for the 8 speed swap. I'd build a 6.4 for it instead, they have better heads, and all 6.4's have a forged crank.all 5.7's are a cast crank.
He can run a 50 shot easily on the same tune,as long as the tune is safe and on the milder side.
Are you planning on upgrading injectors and fuel pump to handle E85,as 450 rwhp is getting to the limits of what the stock system will handle on E,when it comes to fuel you're better off over building the system,as it's better to be safe then sorry.
If the trucks more street then track,it's tough to beat the 6.4 intake manifold, especially if you port it

A transmission is in the future, and I’ve talked about an 8speed upgrade to him, it’s just not in the budget right now, neither is a 6.4. He has the 5.7 and instead of spending 2-3k on a 6.4 we’re just gonna play with what we have.

By the time you put pistons/rods /cam etc. into a 5.7 and pay a machine shop to machine the block, you're damn near at what a brand new 6.4 non-mds long block will set you back.

That’s a fair point as well. We haven’t bought anything yet, still shopping. Appreciate the info

You get better heads and a forged crank with a 6.4. The 5.7 Eagle heads are good, but the 6.4 Apache heads are better, and if you're building a N/A motor the heads are the critical part.
Alot of 8 speed 6.4 Challengers/Chargers will put down 420 to 430 at the tires stock, throw a cam in them and they're well over 450 rwhp.
