Hello everyone. I have a 2012 1500 4x4 5.7 and I've had many different types of Dodge trucks from 2nd and 3rd gen Dakotas to 2nd gen cummins and lifted and built 1500s and 3rd gen 2500 Hemi and 08 mega cab 6.7 cummins (which was my most modded vehicle) to my 2012 1500. Now I know the 6 speed is trash but I've got some research on the 4l80e and parts and pricing and lists for that. I've been really wanting to get a 6.4 SRT since I see them all the time complete out by me (Detroit Michigan) so they come by under 4000$ with harness and CPU and such. Now I have my truck lowered with 32" tires. I am wanting a little over 550HP crank one day. What I'm worried about on the 1500 are the axles and the front end. I'm used to solid axle trucks, besides my Dakota's but those were stock DD's. So this stuff is new to me. I've never had to worry about the Solid Axles breaking even close to 650HP which my 6.7 Cummins had. Now I've blown my few of trannys. Now my question is, should I just save up and trade my 1500 in and get into a 2500 HEMI which I'd like to get in a few reasons, especially since I've got the quad cab and I'd like the crew cab with the full size bed. I see quite a few 2500 hemis out by me going for 10k to 12k with the same interior and trim. I wouldn't want to downgrade. Do they make upgraded axles and such for the 1500 or am I better off getting the 2500? Thank you!

Honestly you'd probly take out the trans or t case before you took out the Cv axles but that's just my 2¢

If you want a fast 1/2 ton stick with the 5.7 and mod it. They can be REAL fast. No axle swap needed.

If you want a truck that is not so fast but a good work truck get ride of the 1/2 ton and get a HD.

I went from a '09 1500 4x4 5.7 3.92:1 up to a '17 2500 CCLB 4X4 6.4 4.10:1 and I could never go back to a 1500. This is a truck. My 1500 felt like a car compared to this long ass truck.
Now, if you're wanting to go fast, you gotta move about a ton more weight. Even with 4.10s, it cruises at +/- 2000 rpm at 70 mph. It's only a "4.10" in fourth gear w/ the 6 spd. 6th is 0.625:1 so you're running at roughly a 2.56:1 rears. To solve that issue, I am saving my pennies to go to 5.13:1 rear gears. I have no desire to drive 7500 lbs of truck at triple digits any more. Did it, survived it, Done.

I imagine you already knew all that but you asked and I was bored, lol.

The axles will be fine, unless you plan on launching it at the track with slicks repeatedly at high power numbers. Even then, the limited slip is most likely going to be the first to go.

I’m pushing 500 at the wheels with no troubles from any of the axles. They’ll be just fine.

If all you're shooting for is 550 crank HP ,upgrade the rear diff with a Detriot Tru Trac posi unit, and you'll be good. My truck puts down 500 hp and 572 lb-ft at the tires, has in excess of 450 dragstrip passes on it,and after biting the bullet and replacing the failure prone OEM clutch limited slip unit in the rear diff,i haven't had any issues.Hit up Matt Fikac at Moes for everything you need to upgrade your ZF rear diff to a Tru Trac
