I had a 2004 1/2 with a stick I should have kept. All that had was a cat you could yard out as no wires etc to the electronics. I believe it was the same way until I believe 06.

but they were loud,
I wonder why that is. My 6.7 runs really quiet - even when I am standing next to the front of the truck. Is it primarily because of the common rail injection system that allows them to do more with the injection timing so they can get a more slow burn in the combustion chamber rather than one big explosion? I think the 12v were even worse than the VP44 24v in the early 2000s.

Funny.... I just drove through Gladstone today. It's a suburb about 20 minutes South of Portland. Lots of car dealers... First house I ever bought was there.
Heh, I'm in Hillsboro. We live next to the little people. :)

On the OP, I bought an old one for several reasons: cost, the rattling engine noise, straight-six torque, red, regular cab, 4WD, auto trans, and mainly the simple nature of it. I can work on it easily and up the power easily, there are fewer things to go wrong, and there's no smog to screw it over.
Plus, hey, Gen 2's are a classic in the pickup world.
I really, really need to tighten up the steering though, which sucks big time. So far, I've spent thousands on front end parts, not yet installed.

You will not regret it as I went from a 22 to a 04 and I love it as I finally got rid all of their crap electronics
There's another reason I bought a '95: the lack of electronics. I guess I'm old school. I don't even want electric seats. BUT I do want electric windows, mirrors and locks. I got those and that's all I really need. Everything else is just complexity, to me.

I’m an Iowa boy who retired in 2022 and bought an 05 2500 5.9 manual to pull a 10k camper. We winter in Texas and end up in Florida for the Daytona 500. I’ve put 30 k on the truck and only replaced the belt and batteries. We are vary happy and confident with our $22,500.00 truck it has 83k miles on it now.
