I've been meaning to post this but I kept on forgetting. Does anyone else have this issue. I'm not sure if the light is supposed to stay on or if the glove box lid is defective and crooked, allowing it to leak light through the bottom. I have the 19 rebel. I'm not sure if it's worth taking to the dealer or finding a way to seal the light myself lol

Normally one would thing that light should go off when the lid is closed. Would be a big design oversight if it does not.

At least you can see that it's still on through the ill-fitting door. When I close my hood, I have to crawl under the truck and look up to be sure the under-hood light is off. Would drive me nuts driving down the road, thinking that my engine bay was illuminated all the time.

I would say the light goes off when the door is closed It does on my 2015.... Just like a frig.. Mine a switch left side that is pushed when door is closed and shuts off light. When opened the switch is pushed out and light comes on.Your light is in the center mine is on the left so your switch may be in a different place, unless you have a gravity switch like on the hood light !. I suck at explaining things hope you get the point :O So my guess is a bad switch ,warranty work and a 5 minute fix

Most of our hood lights go out at a percentage of closer. No need to wonder.

Hi everyone,

I saw there's a STAR case about the Upper Glove Box not latching. The Case Number is S1823000022. Although I am not a trained technician, maybe the door is not properly latching which caused the light to stay on. For more details about the STAR case, I recommend connecting with your dealer. Let me know if you need help coordinating an appointment.

When my hood is up, it's usually for no reason I'm enjoying (often looking for where the mice chewed to give me my current check-engine light). So I just slam the hood in disgust while I go file a comprehensive insurance claim and wait for the flat-bed to haul me to the dealer. Only after the fact to I begin to wonder about my under hood light. Now maybe if defeated the doo-dad that makes the light go out when I shut the hood, the mice will think somebody's home and won't come up on my HEMI and eat the injector wires. But then again, they might think it's a party, and invite the chipmunks along. I need to find a place to put a snake under the hood.

I had the same problem and the dealer had to replace the switch that shuts off the light. I was glad they didn't have to take the dash apart to access the switch.

I'm having the same problem, except its vice versa. My box light and the accent lighting for the door will not come on.

I'm having the same issue: up glove box light stays on... Definitely seems like as misaligned door or switch. I can press the box door down and the light will turn off, but with the slightest bump in the road the light comes back on. Super annoying at night. Has anyone had luck getting this fixed at the dealer?

Just noticed my glove box had same light shinning through. It’s not overwhelming or anything, I thought maybe it was for ambiance type lighting as it shuts right now when the truck is turned off as well. Glove box and latch all seem to be aligned well.

On my Longhorn there is a “light bar accent” on the outside top, between the door and dash board. I thought this was the same problem at first, then realized it was meant to be on.

In the glove box on the left side, you will see a cut out for the piece of plastic on the lid that hits the micro switch. If you stick your pinky in there you will feel the rubber cover on the micro switch and can test it. I’ve read people are having trouble with the glove box lid not closing well, and bad switches. At least this way you could know for sure.

My dad just had this fixed on his Laramie yesterday. The box was misaligned. Dealership aligned it and the light worked as designed and the light on top of it actually looked better too.

Yup...I too am have the same issues with my glovebox. Had it in once to fix. Dealer made me wait for the part then gets it all apart and only adjusts the old part......only to find out that night that it was still on...I was SO NOT impressed. Back I go again this Friday to have this issue addressed again.
