I was wondering if anyone has replaced the usb power plug in the dash of their truck. I would like to replace the usb A plug with a more useful usb C plug. I‘m hoping someone has done it. I would prefer to replace that plug then putting a usb charger in the power point in the dash. As the electronics world is moving from usb A to usb C it seems like a good upgrade.

You won't gain any function from the upgrade other than mechanical fitment. A USB to USB C cable would accomplish the same and leave the plug. You would arguably be loosing function due to the ubiquity of USB A devices and adapters...

If it’s connectivity you’re after, you may be better suited to getting a wireless CarPlay/aauto adaptor and ditching the cables altogether.

I’m after the faster charging capability of usb C over what usb a has. For connectivity’s sake I installed a head unit with wireless CarPlay/Android auto about 1 1/2 years ago and would never go back. I put in a pioneer 4500nex and it’s far superior to the oem unit it replaced.

I look around for different things from time to time, never saw a plug in receptacle to replace the A-type. But with Apple deciding not to change from their current plug, it probably won't occur from the factory as putting two different plugs adds cost and by nature of the beast, one is probably going to be unused. Your best bet is probably that adapter for the 12v plug. But please let us know if you find something. Good luck.

Apple isn’t the only one using usb c. Samsung and some other Android phone makers proceeded Apple with using it. It is the new standard that others will eventually follow. For know I’ve gone with an adapter that goes in the powerpoint plug in the dash. Hopefully the little door will still close when a cord isn’t plugged in.

I meant that Apple had not switched from the lightning port in the iPhone. While iPads have, I would imagine Apple may just jump to full wireless with the phone. But, they make a ton of money, I imagine, licensing the technology to those that build peripherals. And since wireless may be the future, spending any money in changing from USB-A to another port in the vehicles is probably not well spent.
