Anyone wanting to get rid of used OEM Fobiks that look like this, I will happily take them to try to renew them. In need of 2 myself. Just need circuit board, nothing else. Aftermarket Fobiks aren't supported for renew and most have non-writable chips. OEM remotes can be reflashed most of the time. The blade keys unfortunately can't be reflashed that I know of either.

Not looking to create a renewing service or sell them, just trying to learn better what my Autel Maxim KM100 can do. Tried on 2 aftermarket remotes and they refused to renew. I also tried OEM blade key and it is not able to be renewed either. Truck just reports "Wrong key" and dash will not illuminate. AlfaOBD is not able to program them to WIN module either unless the chip status shows Unlocked.

This is called a Transponder KEY

I am aware, however, when doing searches a majority of people call them blade keys or Fobik keys, even though they are neither. When searching with the term, "transponder", the results normally show the Fobik remote or the gray/grey sentry key. If the term,"Key Y170" is used, then the key pictured above is found.

That website has pretty decent prices on aftermarket. I am mainly going for the OEM due to the renew abillity. Unfortunately the Y170 is unable to be "renewed" in either OEM or aftermarket. Learned the hard way with a WIN module that I had installed and then after having that Y170 paired to it I needed to pass the "secret pin" from the body control module to the WIN and after that was done, the key no longer was recognized by the body control module as a valid key for that vehicle. The Y170 seems to just be a throw away key if WIN module is replace based on videos I have watched and personal experience.

I paid $37 for a Y170 "Ram" logo key, and now have a nice paper weight that can unlock the tailgate and door, but will not start the truck. I also have 2 Fobiks that suffered the same fate due to being aftermarket branded. I did have all 5 of my keys pair to that WIN module, but after the "secret pin" was transferred from the body control module to the WIN module, the other 3 keys became, "Wrong Key" on the dash display. I am not sure why the key and Fobik that came with the truck still functioned even after me performing a forget keys command with AlfaOBD. I should have lost the abillity to re-pair the keys I got the truck with, but they work fine. I even added OEM remote start with a two button remote by swapping out the rubber key pad with a remote start one, adding the antenna to the WIN module, adding hood latch with switch, and enabling the features with AlfaOBD. I originally only had a keyless entry with no antenna WIN module. The wiring for the hood switch was already present. I did try the X-Start wiring harness and that works great as well, just wanted to have the factory items, as those are easier to come by compared to the aftermarket parts on this old of a truck.
