Good afternoon, I have a 2018 Ram 3.6 V6 and am looking at swapping a 5.7 V8 into it. The donor vehicle is a totaled 2015 Ram with a 5.7 that still runs and drives. How hard would the swap be if I swap out everything drivetrain related? Would I run into any issues with the electronics even with swapping the PCM and cluster from the donor vehicle? I'm asking this considering that the donor truck is a higher optioned model than my tradesman trim.

Hello
I think buying a ram v8 would be way cheaper than doing the swap. Just my humble opinion

How totalled is the v8 truck?

Maybe swapping sheetmetal from the 6 unto the 8 is the way to go

I remember the good ole' days of the LX/LC platforms and swapping the V6's for the 5.7 & 6.1 engines and their NAG1 transmissions.

Not certain of how that swap looks in a Ram, but no doubt it's doable!

I have done this before with several donor trucks and you will need every module from the donor truck. When you swap the PCM over to run the motor all of the other modules are programmed to communicate with each other and they are VIN matched. You will literally need every module but it will work.

This is one of those cases where if you are on the forums asking you should put down the wrench and walk away. Engine swaps today aren't like they were in the 1960's. The whole vehicle is an integrated computer controlled module.

I would absolutely just swap trucks before I'd tackle it in a modern Ram, specifically because of everything mentioned above. You'd be out money ahead.
