So, my Vararam Air Grabber should be in this week, so I've been looking around the forums at other installs but I don't see many pics of people who have painted them. Any reason? It seems most get the black or hemi orange. I want to paint mine to match the truck (gray metallic.)
Are there any issues with this that anyone has seen? I'm mostly concerned with heat, but if they are specifying one specifically for painting, I assume it wouldn't be an issue. Thoughts?
Thanks!

I have seen a lot of guys on the internet paint theirs, some of them look pretty sick too, I am not aware of anyone having issues I would just make sure you prep the area properly, use decent paint and you should be good to go

Nice. Lhemi - I saw the install how to, but didn't see any info on painting (I've done some stuff on my old trucks, mostly the grey plastic trim ford loves to put on their trucks as well as interior pieces) so I assume it's mostly sanding, maybe some bonding primer, 2-3 coats with some wet sanding in between, and a clear coat, correct?
Again, I looked through the forums, but the "Technical Writeup" and "DIY" sections seem to have some major overlap, lol

I have a textured lid on my truck right now, but will be painting a smooth lid to match the mineral grey. I am not much of a painter though, so I'm going to let the body shop do it when they paint mu bumpers and grille.

I just got my color match paint for my finders flares, it's the same gray as mine, send it with my brakes and I'll paint it for ya Matt.
Painting is all in the prep. If you take your time, and let the paint flash between coats, use your prep sprays and primers to get a nice flat surface, a couple 3 good coats of color, some 1000-2000 wet color sanding before clear your good.
It helps to paint, and then through some heat lamps on after, get a good hard finish. I'll have to get you the name of the company I used this last time for my color match paint. I'm going to paint my flares and post a how to here for everyone.
Let me know if I can help in any way.

Thanks Lance. The body shop is already going to have extra paint from doing the bumpers and grille, so its just easier to let them spray the VR lid while its there. Yours looks very nice though.
