Hey all - tracking down some vibration in the steering column, can also feel through the brake pedal. (2016 Dodge ram 1500 5.7L, 75,000 miles, purchased 3 months ago, all stock except 295/60/20 tires, 20mm wider than stock)

It is a rattle 'you can feel through the controls, not hear' when going over bumps low or at high speed (specifically if you go over a larger bump, and the truck is unweighted, when it lands you feel a more pronounced rattle as the weight settles through both the brake pedal and steering wheel)

Already done on truck:
- road force balanced all tires within spec at American tire
- all front end components replaced with full new stock kit (tie rods, upper lower control arms etc)

Suggestions i've heard:
- U joint axle (not inspected yet)
- CV axle (not inspected yet)
- Steering column (shop I took it to said they saw some minor play, but unsure if a new steering column would fix it, i see new sets for $390 online, however i feel zero slop in the steering when manually turning the wheel, it feels tight)
- play in the shocks (not inspected yet)
- antisway end link and bushings (not inspected yet)

Any other thoughts? Cheers

I had a Bilstein 5100 do something weird and the upper mount and shaft became loose and rattled, I had to replace some parts and the shock.

Mine has had a rattle feel through the wheel for years, I thought it might have been play between the steering rack and steering shaft but have not fully found it yet, it’s annoying but one of those things on the list to look at again.

Shocks ,inspect anti -sway end link and mounting bushings. If you feel vibration with brakes applied,I would suspect warped rotors .

You said in the first sentence you feel it in the brake pedal .
I know I misread things often , but I double checked.
Empty the glove box , and remove anything from behind and under the seats.
Remove contents from door pockets.
You may be overlooking something.it has happened on this site before, is the only reason I mentioned cleaning it out.

ya no vibration when "actively braking" but you can feel a rattle through the steering column and brake pedal (foot hovering on it) coming from the chassis, easiest way to put it is it feels like pieces of steel clanking through the body, its not a light door rattle. Thanks

I had something similar on my 2012, and it ended up being a pin through the steering shaft in the column that had a lot of play around it. I made a bushing and pressed in to take up the slack. Steering wheel "rattle" was gone after that. May not be the same thing, but might be worth looking into. Apparently they're now for sale.

I’m sure mine could use this.

It caused quite the rattle/clunkiness in my steering column, that's for sure. Even my 2018 does it now, but I haven't bothered to fool with it since I know what it is and haven't had the time.
