Getting ready for Winter - The wife feels the 'wump wump wump' of the tires will drive me crazy. < maybe she knows best. I don't offroad as hobby. But when it snows I want to be as safe as possible (including using my head, safe speeds, situational awareness)

My factory Goodyear Wrangler SR-A only have 10k miles on them, I would hate to give them away ($16 disposal fee) but I would not enjoy storing them - Well unless I am going to flip back in march.

I have searched threads here - no bad reviews, any reason not to pull the trigger - fishing for opinions amongst 'friends'.

I‘ve had two sets of Goodyear Duratracs, great tires IMO, except they last nowhere near the mileage rating. The worst part of that is no dealer, will warranty them for anything except road hazard.
And I’ve read the previous replies and have not had the same off road experience. I wheel my truck pretty hard, and I have used it at the deer lease after I sold my jeep. The terrain is rough and extremely rocky, shy of rock crawling rocky. And, (knock on wood) I’ve never had an issue with these tires.
For the money (and warranty), I’d get something else, unless Goodyear decides to warranty the mileage.

I would also add the new Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S to the mix. Those are great for a half ton (no LT sizes available), have a 620 treadwear rating (65K miles) and have dedicated snow grooves. It's advertised as helping enhance braking on snow by up to 20 ft. They are also fairly priced.
I put some on my truck based on good reviews everywhere and videos showing favorable performance over the BFG AT KO2 (which I had on a previous truck)738854b8dbadaca811f6b35f9e118da5.jpg

We just bought a 2018 Hyrdo Blue Ram Sport used a few weeks back and it has like new SRA's on it from the factory. The SRA's seem to be very loose in the rain so I'm dreading winter with them.

I've been doing research on all the tire options for a decent all weather tire and I keep coming back to these Cooper AT3 4S. They have great reviews and seem to align closest to my driving requirements.

The AT3 4S are lighter from a weight perspective than some of the other options, deliver decent fuel mileage that is comparable to the stock 20" SRA's, increased cold weather performance on ice and snow, excellent hydroplaning resistance, fairly quiet ride along with great road manners.

For our Ford Edge's with 20's we run dedicated 3 season tires and Blizzaks for winter but with the RAM I have been leaning towards an all weather as I do not want to store more rim and tire sets.

I tow a 2 place enclosed snowmobile trailer in the winter and will be using primarily the RAM. It will tow a 5500 lb camper in the summer.

If I do go dedicated winter I will get a set of the factory black sport rims with TPMS and mount up more Blizzaks as they have been simply amazing tires.

I've never spent so much time looking at tires as I have for this truck. I get close to ordering and then change my mind.

Watching this thread with interest.

Good luck with them, Power Wagon guys hate the Duratracs and can’t wait to get them off the trucks. I dumped mine with less than 400 miles on them and never looked back.

I just install the DuraTracs in my truck, and boy, that ride is smoother than melted butter, amid the thread design, I have no complains about them, like at all...

Its hard to give a apples to apples comparison with all the other variables involved.

For example, a guy with a jeep may complain about the sidewall of an SL load range brand X tire, tell everyone how wimpy the sidewall is, then buy a load range E tire of brand Y and love it.
Then he will spend the next 10 years telling everyone that brand X has weak sidewalls and brand Y can drive on the surface of the sun.

A powerwagon is a 2500 and has D load range Duratracs.

Im driving a 1500 with E load range Duratracs.

Me and the powerwagon guy should reasonably expect to have different experiences.

I drive on roads that have alot of granite sharp edged rocks, steep hills and switchbacks. I live on Mt Baker Highway in the North Cascades, WA state. E range Duratracs on a 1500 hold up as well as anything else ive used.

The OP is looking at SL Duratracs. If he buys SL load range Duratracs for his 1500, based on information about how well E load range Duratracs hold up on a 1500...... Well, he can reasonably expect to have a different experience.

I've had the duratracks on my last two 1500 rams and love em. Run them year round up in B.C. so we get lots of snow and they are awesome. I rotate mine every other oil change or they get noisy.

I have the Duratracs on my 2500 mega cab and they are great tires but are wearing more than I had hoped ... Ive only had them for 10 months and have about 11,000 miles on them. the front end is so heavy it just rips through tires

I dont see them making it much over 30k

Those of you running duratracs, and liking them, what size/load range tires do you have?

So many people are loving or hating the "Duratrac", without indicating which Duratrac it is that they love/hate.

Imagine the following scenario:

Two guys are arguing over hunting rifles. Bob says the Remington 700 sucks because hes shot 4 deer with his, and they all had to be tracked down because they run off.

Ed says the Remington 700 is a great rifle. Hes shot 4 deer with his and all dropped dead immediately.

Neither mentions during the argument that Bob lives in Alaska and is shooting 400 lb mulies with his R700, .223

And Bob lives in Florida, hunts 100lb whitetail with his R700, .300 Winchester Magnum.

Kinda makes the sucks/great argument seem silly.

Mine are 305 55R20 load range E, running them at 45psi.

Just read this yesterday, and it has some good information in it, especially the part about how tires get that mountain snowflake stamp rating. Basically, they only have to be 10% better than all season tires.

https://www.outsideonline.com/2365296/outdoor-enthusiasts-these-are-your-winter-tires

These Cooper A/TW's would be a dedicated winter tire, and if I spent enough time in snowy conditions with my truck, then I'd spring for a 2nd set of wheels and tires for winter use only. You definitely wouldn't want to run a winter tire year-round.

Late or not, I wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

I had these on my 1500 loved them. Best in snow, I just had instant traction. Not great at just wet, but not bad either

Having a bad experience on my dually, but I am not sure if it's my alignment, ( don't get me wrong I have checked, 5 times... )

Drivers side front is wearing on the shoulder and feathering on the outer portion of the tire.

I have since been told aggressive tires always wear bad on drw.

I will get to the bottom of it. I an trying a city tire next ( I got 10k out of them, and again just the outer edge of the driver's is the issue. Aligned 5 times [ should be aligned 1 and verified 4 ] and checked all front end, personally replaced all four shocks. ... don't know what to do yet...... )

Would I buy the tires again, heck yes! On my drw..... no idea yet....

I had the Duratracs on my Tacoma a few years ago. Not really any road growl was noticeable inside and traction was great I never had problems with them, in mud or snow. You ever try discount tire? They gave me trade in value on the stock tires that came on the Tacoma. Knocked off a good chunk of the Goodyear’s.

I have Dura Trac 35 12.50 r20’s Best investment I’ve made by far !! These tires are amazing in the rain and snow and most of all I have little to no road noise what so ever! I have horrible OCD and every little noise drives me crazy so I was so scared to make the purchase but I’m so happy I did !!!! You won’t regret getting them.

I have Duratracs not sure the size but its basically the biggest ones they make. They roughly 34.5 but 13 wide. Pretty close to a 35. For some reason got a smoking deal only on that size. But in the past I've had Duratracs on my Dakota, a previous Ram, and Kelly Safaris on my Wrangler which is basically a replica of the Duratrac.

So being that I've had 4 pairs I like them obviously. Great traction all around and closest to mud tire look in an AT which is why I got them.

I had GOODYEAR WRANGLER AT ADVENTURE WITH KEVLAR (sorry copied and pasted)
These tires I put on my 07 1500 laramie and they were by far one of the best tires I have ever driven on. The traction was the best in rain snow or any other condition. The wear was by far superior to other brands I have owned. I lost the truck in an MVA back on 10/7 and I was more upset about losing the tires then the truck in whole. Now im driving a 16 limited with brand new Chinese **** on there. Really haven't driven the truck enough to judge them, but looking forward to the day I can replace them with the above tire. Th8at's my vote in a nutshell.
But to the OP replacing tires is a big expense( not that it outways safety), If you decide to change your tires I would sell your old ones on Craigslist or something similar for half the retail and recoup your expense of the new ones.

I have a 2018 2500 that I purchased new 4 months ago and I went from dealership to Discount Tire to get rid of the Firestone junk and put Duratrac’s on the rig. I have had Duratrac tires on 4 previous Rams and my wife’s Jeep and sons Jeep and will always use these tires as they are in my opinion the absolute best tire on the market. My last truck go 83000k on them and wife’s Jeep made it to 73480k on her last set do the money is well spent for these tires and the noise truly is minimal.
