Ok After watching a lot of videos and reading alot of posts, I think I've finally got a handle on how to make sure my WDH is set up correctly. Not that I don't trust the kid at the RV dealer that installed it lol. The one question I have is, Since I'm outside of the truck doing the measuring and adjusting, do I need to add something inside the truck with the wife and the dog to compensate for my 250lbs or am thinking about this too much?

I've been doing the same thing because the place where I got my camper did not setup the WHD correctly either. I have a Curt Manufacturing TruTrack C17500. I went with the initial setup as far as what the manufacturer recommended. Just as an initial setup. I had the boss lady load the camper with the items she bought for it, and added some additional weight that I thought would be needed, and loaded some extra weight in the bed of the truck to get some weight in there. I plan on finding the local CAT weigh station and make sure the truck/camper weights on the axles are good to go.

Bingo Cat scales are now prevalent. No need to ball park It. Cat has free locator app for your phone. We still get yellow page books to because lots of retirees live in our plat & zip.

My only issue is the closest CAT scale is an hour away....wish it was closer.

I am in the same boat, closest CAT is 60+ miles away.....so I used the measurements to get things "close enough" and will refine with a scale when I have an opportunity.

Sooooo do I add 250lbs of weight inside the truck while I'm setting up the hitch or is that not necessary? Thoughts?

Technically that would be the right thing to do. However that's only going to cause minimal sag at the rear axle, and WDH are not infinitely fine adjustable so it might not make a difference in the setup. If the weight was in the bed over the rear axle it would be more of concern.
