One thing most of us will likely agree on, it's a constant battle to differentiate what type of vehicle that some members are driving.

Some don't know while others don't care to show it accurately in their avatar.

If at all possible and for everyone's improved sanity, could new members be prompted a bit more forcefully when they sign up to provide more truck details in their avatar?

Could a specific field be added for DS, DT, e-Torque etc?

If this new truck descriptor field could be added, why not make it available for everyone to use?

If a new field is too much trouble, how about a prompt to add the letter description to the year?

I know this will add another challenge to some new members but balancing the asset value against the added support required should still be a net gain.

I'll include one more vote to add about 20 years to the word nanny's pre-pubescent maturity age.

And, thanks for asking for our input.

As a guest here, content to follow the rules. RAM Forum a great resource. <<< Primary reason I am here.

But, ya asked for suggestions.

1. Word censoring is beyond over-the-top, NUTS. Personally a HUGE supporter of, Freedom of Speech.

2. Sub forum allowing politics or whatever chatter. Folks can visit it, read, comment, OR Avoid It. No BFD.

3. Clues on how to tweak personal info area. I'm too da__ slow to figure it out on first ten attempts.

All of that said, I treasure RF. Have learned a lot over the years. Excellent resource. RF members openly share solutions and ideas, when a member posts issue(s) with their RAM. <<< Pure Gold.

Thank you for asking for input.

I may be reading it wrong, but I thought you could as long as it's not repetitive. IE, running a resale or manufacturing business via the classifieds without paying for a business sponsorship.
nope

i picked up a few sets of visors for these trucks a while ago and my for sale post were deleted because they were new
i dont understand why in the world they would not want the traffic that this generates, and me to give our members a chance to get a good deal on something they want for thier trucks

not to mention that its just good word of mouth for the forum, because now, if someone askes me about the forum i will have to tell them that the for sale rules are...well, lets just say it is so retarded it is past top dead center

.......Also the ability to send a picture in messages. When someone asks a question it would be really nice to be able to upload a pic instead of having to create a link to my Google photos...

YES! This is indeed a good suggestion. :favorites13: I've been burned a few times by this, very annoying.

I would like to see some sort of file hosting option for verified/high level contributors etc so we can have some of the important files, manuals, schematics, radio SW updates, etc for everyone to easily access/share if possible with some stipulations... ie vetted/approved by mods as useful, (use at your own risk, etc).
I've personally got a lot of Ram related files hosted at various file sharing sites etc and limited in various posts here that I don't intended to manage indefinitely but know they will be useful to other 4th Gen owners for a long time.
Same for other members posts that may lose valuable info if their file shares disappear (ie Ghost Ram's AlfaObd thread.... He hasn't been active in awhile)

PS:
can you do anything to get my forum signature to show up in all browser versions? ... Seems to show up on PC/Firefox, but stopped showing up on my android mobile /Firefox browser since we ditched Tapatalk. (If I switch mobile browser to a forced "Desktop Site View" it will show the signature).

That's dumb, then, and seems contrary to the spirit of the rule as written.

Lets take away the ability for users to use colored text. That one is super annoying. No offence to the guy whose profile this is, can't even apologize to him for using his as an example BECAUSE I LITERALLY CANNOT READ HIS NAME.

Yes my feathers get ruffled when users use the rainbow for text, its not just profiles but signatures too and occasionally the actual message.

Not all of use the same forum color theme and when you jack with the colors you clash with the colors used in other styles.

Just type in black like a normal human please :buttkick:

It looks great to me but I use the dark theme on both my phone and PC, as well as a dark reader app.

I understand your frustration with the odd avatar font colour, it sometimes happens to me too with fonts.

The colour while inverted for dark theme blends into the background, causing the text to disappear.

I left-click and highlight those to make them visible.

A nice shortcut (Windows) is Ctrl-A to highlight everything on the page.

Good to know.

I rarely lose sight any fonts but sometimes a customized colored word such as a name in an avatar, with a low contrast to the background blends in after the inversion process of the dark reader app.

Agree with relaxing word censoring...
Politics rule is fine by me - I'm not on FB and the other dopey sites for a reason. This should be truck-based content.

New suggestions:

1) Allow self-deleting a post (not sure why you can't - maybe there's a reason I'm not aware of)

2) Maybe apply a filter for the same old beat-to-death questions like "Best tire suggestions", "Which oil should I use", "Which oil filter is best", "which tonneau cover do you guys prefer", "biggest tire I can run"...I'm sure I'm missing a few. Not that these are unimportant, but a filter should direct a similar worded question to previous posts of the same topic. Or, auto-reply to the message and say something like..."Please enter this topic in the search bar".

Man, this one about doing a search, and being a bit more forceful. I just responded to two new posts with "Did you search...?" and then added a link to similar topics that I found in 2 seconds. I don't know how this could be enforced, but jeesh, who doesn't know how to search on the Internet?

Also, when some does ask about ",,,best whatever...", maybe auto reply for them to look at our vendor section. There is a lot of help just waiting to be of assistance!

As much as I agree with having automated tools to promote autonomous searches through the endless volumes of great info here, *I suspect that could be a pipe dream.

We will always have users (I use that term loosely) whose idea of searching is polling those who know rather than manually searching to find the answers already posted.

Sometimes, the solution may be too difficult to find and asking those who know is suitable, but as we all know, the basic questions are repeated in an endless cycle of laziness and madness.

I often see two distinctly different approaches to problem-solving, and these behaviours always seem to be the instant response repeated by the same individuals.

Those who want to solve problems autonomously by researching the internet for solutions without tasking others. These people don't mind making an effort.

And the other group, who never give a second thought about using others to provide the solutions, with the least amount of effort on their part.

Why should I look online to find the store hours when I can phone a human and use them to obtain the answer?

Never even consider that most retail establishments don't make much effort to answer the phone anymore because that could be a full-time job, and the stores don't maintain sufficient resources to support this unnecessary service.

Never consider that others may have a technical question that requires human interaction to solve.

WAIT, me first, because who else matters besides me?

*Coming soon, AI functions will be integrated into the software used everywhere online, and the behaviour will change... somewhat. LOL

I fear that in the coming years, we will all be inundated with AI BS everywhere, and the steep learning curve will likely drive us older folks crazy.
At least, for the short-term.

...end of rant.

In general, I agree with your overall rant. I think you hit the nail right on the head with; ".......the basic questions are repeated in an endless cycle......". I've moderated in a couple of different forums, and this is ALWAYS the main issue.

I tend to cut the offenders some slack though. For instance, a legitimate 'Search' may yield 10 or 20 (or sometimes many more) results. Thus you are forced to try and wade through thread after thread to find that one tidbit of information you really need. And if the threads are old, there may be new info available.

Whereas if I start a new thread about that tidbit, it takes MUCH less time. And someone can likely link me to a thread that is most relevant to my question, or they may simply post my answer(s), and then I'm happy. And heck, they feel good too, because they've helped a fellow forum member.

No easy answers. I think you're right about AI too. It's gonna be a different world going forward. Let's hope and pray it ends up being for the better........ :favorites13:

I don't recall changing the font color for my Avatar name? ... and don't see any way to do it? (I use Dark Mode also).

I do find different font colors useful in some of the more technical posts to highlight/separate important info.

You didn't change it, the forum (software) changed it. It happened when you became a "Preferred Vendor" or "Military". Mine changed to blue when I bought a subscription.

I wouldn't know how to change any of them.

Ah, good catch ... I forget that sometimes. I guess admins may need to find a different font color for Vendors that shows up well for both the standard and "Dark Mode" backgrounds. I vote for Hot Pink!
