And it looks like I'm getting a 16 big horn black out 3500.... Price is right. And payment isn't much different then my tradesman 3500.... Now after almost buying tires for my tradesmen I looked up the stock 20's and bout **** my pants... There isn't **** to choose from. And all of the tires are $300+++!!! That's just insane!!!!! I'm going to be leveling it... So if I just take the stock wheels and toss them in the basement... What reasonable priced tires can I put in place so I'm not spending $1500 on 4 tires every time! (Plus more side wall would look better) what size in either a 17 or 18" combo would work and yet be reasonable (I'm guessing $1500 for the rims and tires as I don't need or want xd's or the typical "country" boy rims)

Yeah, $1500 for tires is a bit much but I'm well north of a grand with each new set these days on 18" rims. 10ply tires are just expensive. I've run numerous sets of Michelins and been pretty happy. I'm on a Toyo 4 season currently that is pretty nice.

I agree that some of the lower profile tires on larger rims look a bit ridiculous on full size trucks. It really stings when the tires cost more. I guess I'm just saying you aren't going to save a ton of $$ going to smaller wheels. Maybe a few hundred per set of tires. At that rate it would take a few sets to offset the cost of just paying more for the 20" tires.

I was looking at 285/70/17 (power wagon size) and you can get a decent tread, load range e for $185 each, with free shipping, after just one worn out set, that pays for the rims alone, and atleast they look beefier with more sidewall

I about had a heart attack when I saw the price of tires for the stock 20s. Doesn't look like you get much wiggle room to change sizes on stock 20s either. It's got me thinking real hard about switching out to an 18" rim. I'm considering terra grapplers because I've had good luck with those in the past. I'm also interested in the falken wild peak at3w. They get decent reviews from what I've seen so far.

You should be going up in wheel size not down! Some black 22" fuels would look nice on that truck, maybe I will search around today if I get some time as I have never looked for 18" wheel packages.

You didn't understand his post... the bigger the wheel, the more they cost, he's trying to eliminate that rediculus cost for those big wheels.

I would also vote for 18's a small that's what I have and won't go back to 20's. Sometimes I find myself missing my 20's, but then I look at tire prices and it realize why I switched. I know on the 1500's a 17" is the smallest you can go, but not sure if the HD's are the same.

It was a joke but thanks for your sense of humor. That is why I was going to look at some 18" packages to see costing as I have never looked, more of a 20" kind of person.

Are you going to sell the stock ones? All terrains or MT's?

Stock are the transjunks at's as it new. I'm gonna run them down about half way. And toss them in the basement. Maybe in a few years like the Chevy 18" size. There will be more rubber choices and have a decent tread with a decent price... If so. I'll run one set for winter. And one for summer

One problem with those 18's... They are shiny/chrome.... Everything on the truck I'm probably getting (waiting on the bank to say it's a go. Lol) is black.... They would look slightly out of place

chrome rims on an all black vehicle look great, to me anyways. On the price of tires, 300.00 to me is a great price as back in 2006 I paid 2200.00 for 4 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup type tires. They were 275/45/18's for reference, take the ten years since factor in inflation and they would be close to 4k by now. Basically count yourself lucky if 4 tires only cost approximately 1200.00 these days.:favorites13:

This is funny, I bought my new 3500 cuz my 1500 w/20s needed tires. It was "cheaper".... Haha, obviously there was a little more that went into it than that. Especially since I bought a 3500 with 20s! [emoji15]

Thoss29 - I did the same thing. My 2011 Ram 1500 needed tires, tabs, and all of the fluids changed. So, like any fiscally responsible person would do, I traded up to a 3500 crew cab. And so glad I did.

spends 30-50k on a truck... complains about 1k dollars for tires.... spends another 50k on a new truck instead (which will ALSO need tires at some point)

but I always do the same thing :jester: :roflsquared:

Happens more than people think it does. Too many people are just budgeted for a monthly payment plus small incidentals. When a major repair or service hits, the unload and move on to the next new vehicle so long as their payments never go up considerably.

Watched this happen a few weeks ago when I was at the Toyota dealership getting the wife's car worked on. Saw some older business type guy you could tell never got under his car in his life get a high dollar repair bill estimate. Next words out of his mouth was asking to see a new car salesman and they happily obliged.

its not always as bad as it seems, and as long as it makes you happy and doesn't negatively impact other people, have at it.

I never keep a vehicle more than 3 years, and rarely leave them stock, aka the worst thing you can do fiscally, but it keeps me sane.

OP... where da pics???

I'm running the Cooper RTX in that size on my 1500 and like them so far...look good, and they're quiet.
