I have the 4.7l with 3.55 gears. Currently I think it could use some 3.92s. I am thinking about regearing but also want to go to about a 35" tall tire. Most of my driving is city driving. What gear should I go to? My truck doesn't see mud and I rarely need to tow anything.

I agree to go at least 4.10's. If you are going to do it - go better than the other stock option of 3.92's

Contacted my dealership about having the R/T 4.10 gears put in my truck. They quoted me:

I'd definitely look into a shop doing the install rather than the dealer. I got a quote from a 4x4 shop here in town and wasn't much more that your total for me to drop it off one morning and pick it up the next for a set of 4.56's front and rear

I would but mopar is the only ones with gears for the new 2011 axle. Until aftermarket companies come out with gears I am kinda stuck.

Exactly! So hold your horses. Wait until Yukon makes a set of 4.56s. 4.10's will help, but with a 35" tire you'll be less than pleased.

*Point of reference* I have 34" tires on my '00 Ram with 4.56s and I'm kicking myself for not going with 4.88s. If I did a lot of interstate driving, I'd be content with the 4.56s. Most the old truck ever see's is 70 MPH on state roads. 4.88s would have been AWESOME.

Hence, I recommend (and desire personally) 4.56's for the 2011.
(Thus, I'm waiting to re-gear!)

This is what I pretty much plan on doing. $1300 is a bit expensive to re-gear only 1 axle. I don't know if I will need 4.56s or not. I may go with them just in case I want to go 37s later. I would want to install a locker while I was at it too.

Anyone have any ideas on how long it may take for gears to come out for the new rear end?

I've got a buddy with a 2011 itching to get 4.56s and he talked to Randy's Ring and Pinion a couple weeks ago and they said it may be another year. With that being said, I wouldn't go any lower than 4.10s, but if you can hold out for 4.56s you'll probably be happier in the long run.

What did they change from '10 to '11 in the axle? I'm pretty sure '02 to '10 has the same front 8" and the rear 9.25" has been the same for a long time.

I think they changed manufacturers of the housing and a redesign came with it

I forgot about the 4.7 issue. I'd go with 4.88s:drool:
