Can anyone ID what this is? It doesn't look like an OBD-II port and pressing the green button does nothing.

Can I remove it without adverse effects?

Maybe something to do with trailer brakes? I would trace the wires. It's not factory for sure.

Hmm - I didn't think it was stock. It was on the truck when I brought it home from the dealer though.

Yeah. Not stock. Some kind of LoJack or something?

Possibly. I'll have to trace the wires and see where they go - probably won't get around to it for a couple of weeks.

Did you purchase new or used. I bought a Truck and I have a thing that locks like that and it was part of an anti-theft device put on by the dealer. They want $600.00 to keep it as an alarm on the truck. All it did was keep the motor from starting.

Truck was purchased new. Dealer-installed, aftermarket alarm seems to make sense. I'll have to trace the wires but I want to remove it.

If I cannot remove it without causing problems, I definitely want to get rid of this eyesore of a connector.

Hi Azramlover,

Ask the dealer what's up. If they wont remove it a little industrial velcro on the back of that plastic panel and it will be out of sight and out of mind.

If you can't get rid of it, maybe just unscrew it and put it on the other side so you won't see it?

im sure the dealer charged you for some sort of ignition interrupt if you look at your sale see if its listed as add-ons.

no offense but do you have bad credit? reason being is some banks will have gps ignition interrupts installed for customers they are worried about. late/no payments they disable the truck remotely.

Wow, really? I didn't know they could do that....

alot of those low-income/credit places the "buy here/pay here" type do it

That's interesting. I guess I could understand that. But I doubt that's his case since he bought it new from a Dodge Dealer.

Great question; I just reviewed my purchase paperwork and no mention of an additional charge or ignition interrupt is present.

Good thinking, though.

I've installed a couple of those. I think customers are usually aware of it though. You need to ask the dealer you bought the truck from why there is aftermarket garbage on your new truck. I would have already done that.

^ Good advice.

It's on my punchlist for the 1st oil change.

Thanks to everyone for their input!

I would be more concerned with the fact that it looks like they ran screws into the plastic on his dash ..... talk about an eye sore if they remove it

Fortunately, it's on the very front edge of the dash . . . you never see it unless you're really looking for it.

Not yet - got a few thousand miles before the first oil change. Promise to update this thread with the results, though! :)
