...... I watched a small pop up trailer swaying all over the road from the wind as we traveled through South Dakota; I could certainly feel the wind pushing my truck / trailer as a unit, but not swaying the trailer. This trailer was wagging like a happy dogs tail; it was being towed by a Tahoe.......
I am willing to bet the tahoe was pulling popup nose high. Any trailer pulled nose high will sway badly.

Similar experience in my 1500 while towing both TT's we had / have. Headwinds kill gas mileage. Crosswinds kill gas mileage and are more work to drive through.

It's definitely the wind load that clobbers the fuel economy. I tow both a 17' boat and a 24' enclosed car hauler, both weigh right about 3K lbs(car hauler when empty), and the fuel economy with the boat is about 20-21 where as the car hauler is about 16.

Yep. My boat weighs about 1000lbs more than my sons camper and I get about 1 MPG better just because of the aerodynamic difference. Trucks are 100% identical other than color
