What's the Heaviest Thing You Pulled with a 2500 Hemi?????

Hi.....
Just bought a new 2013 Ram 2500 Hemi to pull our new 30' camper......wont be towing for a few weeks.

Wondering what other 2500 Hemi owners are hauling, and what kind of results you are experiencing....

Truck stability?
Braking?
Fuel mileage?
Rpm range?
Towing speed?

I did the first tow....well, sort of!!

We move some of my son's "stuff" in the bed and pulled a 5x10 utility trailer with two couches and a couple of chairs....probably weighed about 1000-1200 ponds total...

Got 16.7 mpg at 67 mph and I did not know the trailer was there until I had to back up...ha.

I'll be following this. My pop's is looking to get a Hemi 2500.
I'm honestly pretty shocked at how low the rating is on the 2500s.
I think mine (Tradesmen) is 10,100#s. The Laramie steps up to 12,400#s.

I'm guessing maybe it's a wheel/tire combo? I dunno, I have freaking 10ply rock hard 80 PSI tires... Kind of confused about that.

Are you sure a Laramie 2500 w/5.7 is that high for towing? It should be lower than yours because it has more stuff on it.

I copied a sheet off the Ram website that shows a 4x2 Ram 2500 hemi crew cab has a tow rating of about 12,000 #......

I will look for it or post a link...one of the reasons I bought the Ram was due to the fact it had a higher tow rating than my previous GMC HD 6.0 gas truck.

If I had 4.10s it's be 13,500. Damn.

Maybe the nicer trucks have the 4.10s..?

Nope.....the 4.10's can be ordered on any platform. I went with the 3.73 because I dont tow often and my truck is a daily driver, so mpg is an imprtant issue

I always get silly and buy something off the dealer lot.
I would have rathered 4.10s personally.

Oh well, at some point in the future with 34 or 35 inch tires, I can upgrade to 4.56s.
Back on topic, 11,000#s is still plenty of capacity for me.

My 2500 with the 3.73 gears is good to almost 12,000 pounds towing....should be enough. We'll see in a couple of weeks for the first tow of 8000#

i've towed a zamboni(i run an ice arena) 10,000lbs with no issues at all, mileage wasn't great but the truck handled it

I just finished a 6000 mile trip with a travel trailer. Trailer weighed probably around 5,700.

I averaged about 8 MPG running around 65+ mph. I was also towing mostly up and down the rocky mountains.

2012 2500 Bighorn 4:10 Good for 13,500lbs

Towing a 33' Outback 301BQ with no problems. Avg mileage 9.5-10.5mpg

We just completed our first tow with our new 2013 Ram 2500 Hemi....TT is 7300# dry, so I am assuming about 8000# as we towed.

I was really surprised how well it towed overall compared to the 2011 GMC HD 2500 we traded it...the GMC never got over 7.3, and the Ram got 10.2. While the GMC constantly downshifted, the Ram did so very seldom.....suprisingly so.

Going down the road, we would come to a fairly substantial hill, and I kept waiting for the downshift....but, with the cruise set at 62 mph, the rig would slow to about 58 mph and still top the hill in 5th gear at 2100 rpm. I kept it in tow haul mode, and just used "D".

The GMC was a buckboard and we felt every little jolt and the porpoising was bad. The Ram rode smooth and very little porpoising even on fairly rough washboard roads.

Overall, I am super happy with the truck. It was comfortable, felt stable, and had more power that I had expected. In the whole 350 mile trip, it never saw anything over 3100 rpms....the GMC would hit 4200 rpms on these same roads.

This trip was on relatively flat terrain through southern Illinois. Next weekend we are heading through the Ozark mountains of southern Missouri, so things might very well be different.

I am really surprised at the difference between the two trucks. I had thought everything would be similar, since they are both 3/4 ton gas trucks with 3.73 gears.

Glad to hear it! I've still yet to tow anything with mine. I'm impressed that you're seeing such good MPG numbers. I guess the 2wds sit about 8" shorter than the 4x4s.

6300lb XLR 27ft TH. With rzr, fuel and supplies guessing around 8000lbs. Power was not an issue, however she started fishtailing around 70 mph, I almost SHAT myself, never experienced that before. I reset my WD hitch, haven't had it out since then.
