Bring on those opinions - looking for thoughts on which is better. Hate the extra length or love getting easier access to the bed of your truck?

I have a cap, so I wasn't worried about the wheel-to-wheel. Mine are just cab length. If I had an open bed, I could definitely see the benefits of having the full length to access the bed.

Wheel to wheel for me and that's specifically so I can get into the bed & the truck box.

My previous gen ram had wheel to wheel nerf bars. Most wheel to wheel need bars use the same mounting locations as the door to door. My nerf bars actually tore out the rear mounts which mounted on sheet metal in the backside of the lower rocket panels. Turned out to be a common problem. Look for frame mounted whatever you get.

I had cab length (not OEM) and liked them EXCEPT I couldn't even wash/clean my back window.
So I have wheel to wheel now - oem.

I bought oem wheel to wheel to make it easier to clean the back window. I kinda wish I had bought cab length. Thinking about taking them off all together.

I do like the look without better also.

However, they do help protect the seats from us sliding in and out AND they do keep the side of the truck cleaner from tire splash/rocks, etc.

I am not a midget but my Outdoorsman is a bit high to just step in and out of.

My truck came with the OEM body-color running boards that were only cab length-

Didn’t really care for them, primarily because they were painted. I don’t particularly care for painted bumpers, grill, or running boards. Had plans to eventually change them out for chrome or stainless ones but one day when my mom had a little mishap with a phone pedestal while moving the pickup outta the way for the mower, I figured now was a good time to replace them for what I wanted so I got these wheel to wheel Luverne Mega Steps. Like ‘em much better. They came with brackets to utilize the factory location of the OEM boards, and since they’re longer, they came with two extra brackets that bolt up to the rear of the board to holes in the front lower torsion bar mount.

Seems fairly sturdy for the most part in the rear but since I don’t make it a habit to access the bed from over the bed rails, cuz I value my paint, they don’t get stepped on that far back. But they sure look good, I think. 53bed479c427bf374e26d8abfeb1f1dd.jpg

I'm also looking for something to protect from doors so the Amp stuff is out.

Yeah, I do to but like you, I like that they help keep the sides cleaner, and they help protect the low sides of the body from rock chips.

I’m really glad I had them that day the truck got into it with that phone pedestal. Truck rubbed on that thing rather than on the side of the body....[emoji51]

Also glad I had the OEM fender flares too. That was an easy fix because that was just a new flare, and having it painted.

I like my wheel to wheels. They help to reach into the bed, especially with a tall truck

Although I don't use it often, I've been spoiled with ease of access to cleaning my back window and reaching into the front of my bed. I'll never own cab only steps again.

It wasn’t the brand that threw me off, I know that Amp is those Amp Research power fold-away boards, but I was more less asking about what he meant about protecting from doors. I’ve never seen or heard of a set of running boards that protect from swinging car doors from people who park next to you who have no regard for other people’s property.

Correct, it's not necessarily the brand but the concept of retractable running boards vs. fixed. Fixed running boards have a tendency to stop other people doors from hitting your paint in parking lots by taking the hit.

Not to deviate away too much from the topic at hand but I got a nice little scratch in the bottom middle of my driver side passenger door from some careless ass who didn’t give a flip so explain to me how running boards are supposed to protect from car doors? Mind you, this was even after I put my new Luvernes on there that stick outward almost two inches further than the stock boards.

The only way to protect from phucktards like that is to park way in the back.

But I could see running boards helping if your truck was 4 feet from the ground. Standard-height trucks- screwed either way.

It's not a guarantee. It varies between steps and the type car/door owned by the phucktards. Apparently my factory steps repel against Hondas. I'll update other brands as they happen Lol.

Cab length only for me. Too many people think its ok to stand on running boards and climb into the back of my truck, scratching the paint as they go. With no running board back there to step on they cant do that anymore.

You quoted my post before I edited it but the only thing can see running boards helping is on a lifted truck.

Kinda wish in some ways I woulda went with those retractable boards but as I said in a previous post, I’m glad I had them on there that day that kept the phone pedestal from the side of the truck.
