I need some help deciding which engine to get. Not planning on purchasing a RAM until later this year. I have a 18' fiberglas boat, weighs about 4,000 that I will be towing some. The area I drive in is a little hilly. The V6 has the best fuel mileage but I don't want to sacrifice performance. I'm also looking for reliability. I had a Tacoma with a V6 that was pretty disappointing for towing. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

If you look at sales numbers the hemi hands down. The v6 with 4000lbs is no issue at all though. Test drive and see if you're happy enough with the v6 vs hemi performance. The v6 is a reliable engine and so is the hemi for the most part.

I towed with both the Hemi and the Pentastar. V6 was great but you can't beat the grunt and torque of the hemi.

Get the Hemi Every boat owner is always looking at the next size up. Don't get yourself into a position where you have to get a new truck before the new boat.

I'd have to say hemi as well, more cost up front but also better resale value and I just love having the power/sound on hand.

As a Pentastar V6 owner I am a little biased, but then again I rarely tow. Had a Durango with the 5.7 and loved it. If you are going to tow with any regularity, I agree with the others above...go with the Hemi. Better to hit a flea with a hammer than a lion with a stick.

If you don't want your man card revoked, get the Hemi without the hybrid crap

I don't need a 3/4 ton but I agree it would do all the towing I will ever do. It sounds like the Hemi is the way to go.

Go with the 2500 and the 6.4 you will have plenty enough and then some to tow !

Make sure you drive both rear ends, the 3.92 is an option most consumers don’t consider. The minor gas mileage decrease with the ZF 8 speed is worth the towing and performance IMO.

To put my two cents in, go with the Hemi and the 3.92 rear end. This is an unbeatable combination, especially with the 8 speed.

I upgraded from a vehicle with a 3.6L Pentastar to a 5.7L Hemi. 3.6L always seemed to struggle at wrong time. Hemi is awesome.

Kinda like asking which is better, a 22 cal or a 44 magnum.
They both get the job done but each in their own way!
Ummmm, HEMI!

Only time I'd get the Pentastar is with a Wrangler, since I'd wanna manual and I'm tired of 2.slows

Agreed, 3.21 gears were a deal breaker for me.
