There is definitely some very experienced audio guys on here. I have decided to do a modest door speaker and sub upgrade.

I am going to use JL TR door speakers and JL xd700/5 amp

Its the subs I am not so sure about. I have never bought one.

I know I will get one or two JLs but I have been told being that I listen to mostly Rock and Pop I should get a sub that sounds crisp.

When I look at JL: website its not so easy to tell. One audio store said a wo work fine in Ram Box, my buddy says no way, he says I do not listen to hip hop and rap so the wo's would not have the crisp pop I want for Rock.

JL has a bunch of subs figure 500w for the two 10's and 200w for the door speakers. Might do only one 10" if its really all I need. Budget matters too.

I plan to do this just before I return home from Afghanistan in a couple months. Paid to be here, my choice.

I am working with the US Marines, Most of them look like Capt. America too me! Confidence is high!

Any insight at all on JL subs is welcome.

Thanks

I went with jl's 12 inch shallow mounts. I listen to rap/hip hop but when the kids are in the truck is what ever is on the radio and I think they sound fine. 10's would probably better suit what your looking for though.

There are a few things that you will need to research
What size internal cubic space box are you building/buying. Find a woofer that is designed for that box, or make one to match your sub
Next make sure you match your sub and amp. You want your rms ratings to be the same or close, very importantly get an amp that will have the desired rms output at 2 ohm or higher. Running low impedances/ohm/resistance over works amps, causes distortion. And sacrifices sound quality. Most high end home audio speakers are designed at 8 or 16 ohms, there is a reason for that and it is to achieve great sound quality.
And rule of thumb I personally would never never never never buy from amazon or eBay etc etc only trustworthy sites
Good luck

Thanks for the insight. After doing more research it seems if I am looking for a tight crisp bass response the JL Stealth box is a great choice. It comes with the W3 sub which supposedly has the better tight response over the W1 or W0. I guess the box it comes in can make all the difference so the stealth box is optimized for the speaker and placement in my truck. The W3 can handle 500w of cont pwr. With the 700/5 I will have 300 left for the sub so it should hit good enough for me. This is supposed to be a modest upgrade and its looking like $1500-$1800 installed.

It really comes down to what you want. Ive had jl before but its been about 5 years now. I no longer buy there stuff because it 2 times the price. You could get more for less but if thats what you want then thats the price you have to pay

I have a jl stealthbox in my truck and I love it! I'm running it off a 300/1 and it pounds plenty hard enough for me. Personally I prefer a balanced sound over belching bass
