well brand new 2018 Ram 2500 and having a whistling noise when it gets over 40 mph. Seems to be coming from passenger side. If I turn on the blowers it seems to stop. It’s very annoying almost sounds like a window is barely cracked but that’s not it. hopefully the dealership can fix this problem. Anybody else ever have this issue?

One explanation for why it seems to stop when you turn on the blower is that you are making the air pressure differential between inside cabin and outside more equal. At higher speeds outside air is trying to force its way into your cabin through any small opening it can find. When you turn on the blower you are pressurizing the cabin somewhat and outside air is not as determined to get inside (for lack of a better way of saying it.)

You might have a leaky weatherstrip seal. Likely culprit is the windshield seal. I've found these leaks by placing duct tape over the suspected areas, driving the vehicle at speeds that produced the wind noise and seeing if the noise went away. If the noise went away or lessened, great, you've isolated the general area of the leak. Start removing small lengths of the duct tape, say six inches or so, from one section of the tape. Drive the truck again, checking for wind noise. If wind noise is still not happening, remove another six inches of tape and repeat the wind noise test. Eventually you will remove a section of the tape, the wind noise returns, and you've found the area where the air leak is occurring.

If you put duct tape around the windshield weatherstripping, drove the truck and didn't notice any change in wind noise, the leak is probably somewhere else. I'd try duct taping around the passenger window weatherstripping next. Repeat the driving and listening process.

After going through this process, the upside is you might find the leak and have some direct knowledge of the problem area. Always good info to have for when you go to the dealer. Keep that info to yourself (don't bias their troubleshooting efforts in any way) and let them try to find the problem. If they come up with leaking weatherstripping or some other reason for the noise and fix it, that's great. If they say they can't duplicate the problem or "it's normal, they all sound like that", then you can tell them about your duct tape experiment.

The downside is you look like a dork driving around a brand new truck with duct tape plastered on the window! Luckily, it's only for an hour or so. And you could do it at night. LOL!

Good luck.

We understand why this would be frustrating. Keep us in the loop on what you hear from the dealer. We're available via direct message and would be glad to help if needed.

Keep after them. Don't let them weasel out of it.

The next thing they will likely say is the sound is normal. Oh? Then they won't mind if you drive a similar truck on their lot and listen for that "normal" sound.

I have a 2016 1500 with the same problem. Always thought it was the antenna. One day while cruising at highway speeds, I folded in my side mirrors. Noise disappeared. I probably need to take it to the dealership, but I’m doubtful it would be fixed.

Boy you guys have alotta faith in your dealerships....lol. Its sad, but TRUE, 99% of them suck.
I lost faith in them years ago... right about the time they started hiring ******* & thieves.
I turned wrench`s in dealerships for MANY MANY decades, finally had to walk away.
Didn`t wanna be part of the stupidity anymore. I can usually fix mine on my own.

As for using tape for finding air leaks, i use the wide painters tape...
it dosent leave any residue on your paint like duct tape sometimes can.

I would tape up the front of the hood, also around the headlights.
Also tape up your doors that you suspect are leaking.
Tape up the mirrors too. Some mirrors do whistle.

I`ve owned 4 of the 4th gen rams, i had to replace the door seals on BOTH right side passenger doors on BOTH trucks. (one was a 10, other one was my 14)
They both leaked air at the front side of the doors. Theres no adjustment you can do to fix that, other than replace the seals, and pray it fixes it.

The seals are very easy to change... i did my own because i didnt want the dealer monkey idiots touching my truck.
Dealer gave me the seals, i brought them back the old ones for warranty.

Hi Cmsharp,

We would be happy to assist while your vehicle is in service if you decide to take your Ram to the dealer for this concern. Feel free to send a PM if interested.

I’ve also got the whistling noise on an ‘18 2500. Appointment for tomorrow. I’ve isolated the cause with painters tape. It’s the 1/2” or so gap between the black trim on the A post on passenger side windshield. They’re replacing the A pillar trim. I hope that fixes it. If not - they’ll order the bottom trim piece that goes all the way under the windshield. If anyone wants, I’ll post pics if you don’t follow my description.

They got it fixed ended up being the cabin air filter Box had a bad seal. No more noise!!! Also got a full tank of gas for my Inconvenience
My husband and I just bought an '18 2500 a week ago. We also have the whistling noise that comes from the passenger side. I had an appointment with the dealership this morning but on my way there, the noise stopped. We couldn't get the whistling to occur again so they couldn't do anything and I went home. On the way home, it started whistling again. FRUSTRATING! They won't fix what they cannot diagnose. So, going back to the dealership and hopefully they can replicate the noise and fix it.

I also have a 2018 Ram 2500 with the exact same problem. Whistling noise starts about 40 mph and gets louder as the speed increases. They thought is was a defective plastic cowl under the wipers. With the cowl removed noise goes away. They installed a new cowl and the noise returned. I've had this truck for a month and it's been in the shop now 14 days for one thing or another. They had to replace an injector at 200 miles. This is the first Ram I have owned and I have to say I am not impressed.

My 2018 2500 CTD does it also. I figured it had something to do with the air flapper that opens and closes depending on if you want outside air or recycle. I can get it to stop just by hitting the air recycle button a couple times. I probably need to get it in to let them look at it.
