Good morning all.
New truck, new forum. Tomorrow, if all goes well, I am picking up my new 2022 white Ram 1500 Classic Hemi with 20kms on the odo. I can only hope this will be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. I am trading in my 09 Tundra TRD which came hidden with all the problems that I read about after the fact and which the dealer failed to disclose. Need less to say I fix the aforementioned and am trading in a pretty healthy truck. The straw that broke the camel's back was two fold. A recent trip to Arizona and back, towing a trailer, had me getting in US terms, about 8 miles per gallon. I know the new Ram will do better, even if not by much. But the real decider was and has been from purchase, the exhaust drone. Bad enough on it's own, a horrendous ear damaging affair when towing. There are fixes but enough was enough.
I was originally looking for a slightly used vehicle but the salesman talked me into a test drive and I was smitten. Sitting down and Googling the good and the bad I soon discovered the problems with the Ram and can only hope she doesn't go from lady to witch. Then there's the guy I clicked on with a 2022 Classic with nothing but trouble. GAAAA!

Welcome! There are a lot of good folks here on this forum with a lot of collective knowledge and experience.

Your story is proof that pretty much any vehicle, from any of the manufactures, can and will have issues. Certainly some will have more than others, and sometimes it is just luck of the draw.

My advice pretty much first and foremost for your new RAM is to adhere to a good engine lubrication and filtration strategy. Lots of information about this in the Engine and Performance forum; actually more reading than you may like! The bottom line is to use a quality synthetic oil of your choice, an oil filter with synthetic media, and don't push the OCI, especially if you plan on keeping this vehicle for an extended length of time. I don't exceed 5,000 miles OCI on my 6.4.

Most Ram trucks drive off the dealer lot never to see the inside of a repair bay again (or not till many many miles have elapsed). When you see people complaining on a forum about any vehicle is because that what a lot of people will do but very rarely do people log onto a forum to say how great/trouble-free their vehicle is

I understand your concerns, and the only thing you can do is take care of her the best you can.

Regular oil changes, and other routine maintenance as well. If something should break, all you can do is fix it and move on.

Wish you many trouble-free miles and lots of smiles with your Ram.

P.S. My 2015 has 165k on her now, 28.6k when purchased. Oil changes near 10k oci, coolant, trans services, replaced a h/l switch, both front hubs, normal stuff, brakes, pcv, etc. Fabulous truck, keeping her til the wheels fall off.

welcome.gifto Ram Forum.

I traded my '07 Tundra Limited in January '22 for a new '21 Warlock and couldn't be happier.

Don't listen to anyone that says the OCI is 10,000 KM (6200 miles), just smile and walk away. LOL
I changed the oil much more often during the first 6000 KM even when dealer people were saying,
"You don't have to change more than every 10,000 KM, even on the first change".

If you’re gonna do that to an engine you’re doing exactly what the manufacturer wants. Turnover. Sorry I lied I did change my trans at 10 k

It's not 10 km it's 10k miles (10 k miles :D ) that it recommends, I do mine at 5000 miles. Make sure you use a high quality synthetic oil with lots of Moly (Molybdenum) and don't let her idle too much. Normal idle here & there is fine. It's the hours / day that many contractors do that is rumored to cause lifter & cam issues.

We're up here in Canada, eh. The oil life meter on my truck is 10,000 KMs.

Are the US trucks actually at 10,000 miles?

Have fun with your new truck! I had a '94 1500 with zero problems, 2003 2500 just 2 new front bearings over 18 years, now a 2018 2500 one warranty fix of an abs sensor. I agree with above, most drive away from lots with great years of service after.

I am not sure what the recommended OCI is on the 5.7's here in the used-to-be-good-old-USA, but on my 6.4 the owners manual recommends not to exceed 8,000 miles. The 5.7 may be different. Eh neighbor!:D

The 5.7s are not to exceed 10k miles or 12 months.

Mine and everyone I know that has a 4th gen it's 10,000 miles. So now we know that OCI meter is bullcrap. So what's next, will they delete the dipstick and tell us the engine oil is a lifetime fill?

I traded in a 2022 4 runner for a 2022 ram, 4 runner was a lemon. Those were supposed to be tried and true. Only issues with my NEW ram that I ordered have been cosmetics. Guess the factory got lazy that day and the dealer didn’t care to check over it either before I signed papers. But it rides smooth and doesn’t shake like the 4 runner.
