Why hasn’t RAM made a performance pickup since the SRT 10

The economy tanked and no one bought trucks. While they worked on getting them selves out of debt, it wasn't really an option. Ford proved they can sell... and now they have the motor to drop in. It's already been confirmed with two different engines... just waiting game now.

Performance trucks died when gas shot up, and it took a while for the big 3 to make fuel efficient engines(trucks) while competing with one another in any hp/trq wars in the standard half ton market.

I loved the Lightnings/Harley/SRT lineup but those trucks were terrible on gas, and well when gas goes up no one wants them lol.

Wish we would see the 6.4 from the Jeep in the 1500's.

As adrianp said, it's already all but officially confirmed that we will get two new performance Rams. I'm hoping to see a 485 HP model similar to the SRT Durango and Grand Cherokee models available when my lease is up in few years.

The bigger question for me is with FCAs tie to Ferrari why don't we have something to compete with the corvette or better yet GT40

There was (probably will be again) the Viper.
Hopefully if/when it returns it will still have that sweet, sweet V10.

Why would they use an engine thats been dead for years, where there are 2 perfectly capable motors that will fit already have transmissions and transfer cases for? 6.4 and 6.2 Hellcat!

Mid engine supercar was more my thinking. GT40 is bad ass and the new C8 vetts will be mid engine as well. Viper is cool, but more of a muscle car in a supercar suit.

The economy, fuel prices and the near failure of the Big 3 led to the demise of those trucks.

As the auto companies worked to right themselves financially, they had to balance new models with new model development costs and that slowed some plans they all had.

Some broke out sooner than others, i.e. Ford, as they saw more revenue come through the door based on increasing sales numbers. Unfortunately, with Ram being a distant third in truck sales, fewer dollars were available for such things for a longer period of time than what Ford experienced.

What will they do? Lots of rumors. I like the idea of the Ram TRX with a blown 6.2L in it. The architecture is there. They just have to make it unique so it sells what they plan on producing. I expect if they do it, the TRX will be as scarce as Demon teeth. ;)

They kind of did with the Ram R/T...
The only thing that made it kinda a performance truck was the 4.10 gears and the performance exhaust. Dodge has 3 models with the SRT motor, Durango, Charger & Challenger, hell even the neon at one time had an SRT, and don’t forget the 300c SRT. It’s time for RAM to get one. :33::33::33:

If they can stuff 700 hp into the grand cherokee it seems like a no brainer to stick it into a ram special edition. Maybe they're worried about that much power tearing up drivetrains towing.

They could fix that with a different gear set and still have a bigger HP engine
