We'll I sold my black half ton 14 big horn for 30k on craigslist. I have 2 guys that want it. I am supposed to be meeting one at the bank Wednesday. If all goes well, he will show and I'm set. Emailed a bunch of dealers in my area. Told them I wasn't taking any **** (not exactly that way). Basically just said I wanted their best price and if it was anything else, I would just disregard their email. Some didn't answer LOL. Lowest price I got so far is 42k . this is after they called me back and originally said 45. They know me though and lost a deal to me with my current truck. True car says 45k so what does that tell you. Then some magical rebates appeared! This is on a 4x4 crew cab with 6.4 hemi 4.10 gearing ,8.4an w/ upgraded speakers, snow plow prep, luxury group, clearance lamps, rear defrost,5th wheel prep, spray liner, bucket seats, cd player, power adj. pedals, engine heater (it was -10 farenheit Here yesterday), alarm, park view and park sense. I told them I have seen the same setup down south for 42k and they included over 1 or 2k more in options. Also told them I'm willing to travel 5 or 600 miles to save a few grand! I'm not kidding about that either. I am going to sit down with them Monday. I can't sign anything anyway till wed. after I sell my truck. I'm still going to try to get a little more off, but I'm sure they have some surprises for me too LOL. Worst case scenario, I'll get a tradesman . But, I do need an hd truck. I just haven't decided on color 100% yet. I know I don't want black again although it looks so damn good when clean! I'm leaning towards white with cherry red or granite as alternatives. Now if only I knew what the hell I'm going to do for a vehicle while it's being built! Ughh

Nothing is final yet. But, Im 100% sure Im getting an HD truck ("needs" changed) whether its a new big horn, or tradesman. You know , i was even looking at used and I have to say these people with the pre owned vehicles must all be junkies. i have no idea how you can want $40k for something when u can get a new truck for that!

Great times ahead for you! Get some pics when you get it, and post the options when you know.

You want a lot of options I'm not sure you can get with a trades. I have a trade with popular equipment group and it's real close to a big horn, door panels and steering wheel differ. Never seen a tradesman with the 5th wheel prep though.

I know what is available for both trims. i have been going through this for 3 months now trying to decide what im doing. I dont think the tradesman is close at all to the big horn. Besides what you mentioned, here is what you cant get in the tradesman (u can get the tow prep by the way):

premium/power cloth seats
chrome grill
better wheels
waaaaaay better cluster
i think u mentioned the leather wrapped steering wheel.
fog lamps
upgraded uconnect
remote start
comfort group (heated seats/wheel) HUGE here (its below 0)
luxury group
rear defroster/ power sliding window
power adj. pedals
security alarm
speaker upgrade
no choice of interior colors

If i forgot anything im sure someone will tell. But, u are talking thousand$ more too

Auto dim review mirror
Upper console with garage door opener
Full center console
Power fold mirrors
Upper glove box
You can also get black appearance package.
Steering wheel controls
Alpine system

Sounds like you have a fun week ahead of you! I agree buying 1-2 years old is too close of a price for me same reason I bought new.

Lol. Guess I forgot a couple things. We did cover the full console(bucket seats), and audio system though. I would get the tradesman if I could get that gorgeous cluster and the heated wheel in there. Then I would just change the uconnect unit to8.4 inch. I have read that guys have changed the cluster but certain things don't work and u have to get it done by the dealer for the mileage To avoid fraud with the odometer. Also the premium cloth is MUCH nicer

I'm surprised by the number of 3500s I see. Seems like there are more of these than 2500s around here.

It sounds like you won't be happy with a trades. The options you listed I didn't want or considered minor upgrade for the price. If stuff like the better cluster interests you I think you'll regret not going with an SLT+

For the money difference if you need a work truck the 3500 doesn't cost much more. Example 1/2 ton 1500 ish payload I'm going to stick with 5.7l numbers I know 6.4 makes a difference) so you upgrade to a 2500 (5.7l) your gettin ruffly 2300lbs payload (depending on trim) for the 2-$3000 upgrade and going form a 2500 to a 3500 your getting about 3300lbs about 1000lbs payload for $500 upgrade over a 2500. The 1500 gvw is 6900ish the 2500 (5.7l) is 9000lbs and the 3500 (5.7l) is 10300 I beleieve. That's my guess why you see quite a few 3500's and that's all SRW numbers.

Yeah they big horn is wer it is at my friend trying to add all that stuff wont be anything but a headache. I know people have done it but I would never upgraded my express to the 8.4 (I want to) but I'm not swapping out my steering wheel to get steering wheel controls because you won't have volume control other wise (untill someone figures out how to re wire everything to the 8.4 controls the climate controls and can add the sound controls to the dash)

Tell me about it. Hundreds more for almost 1000 pounds payload on the truck that i want. Its a no brainer especially when Im talking 5er toy haulers and the tongue weights are too close to 3k for a 2500. So what if its got leafs. I test rode both and on your average road you cant tell the difference. Yes, over bumps and holes there is a difference, but how many drive over bumps and holes ?

The laramie guy will tell you for a few grand more get the laramie LOL. I was considering that , but I have never had leather and wont know what I will be missing. I honestly think I would prefer the fabric of the BH. I love it. And I wouldnt want to maintain the leather. I cant see the extra $ being worth it. One cool feature that I wish I could have is the auto high beams. But, they need to work out the bugs cause I see a lot of complaints about reflecting off the signs and problems with it. I rented a car that had them and they were **** (when they worked). The keyless enter I could go without and the rain sensning wipers....give me a break. The exterior differences I could do without also.

So, i talked to the guy thats buying my truck and he reconfirmed meeting wednesday. Looks like i wont have a truck after that for a while!

Hey 14hemi, you know they have a swap that you can change the bezel and there is a rotary knob on it if you want to get the 8.4? You could always buy their bezel and get a used cheap 8.4 off ebay if your lucky

I'm a no frills(cheap) kinda guy, so the tradesmen fit me just fine. I did look at A SLT, but I use my truck for work more than play.

It also made sence for me to get the 3500 over the 2500. Love the #4000 + payload.

I'm really stressed out about this. Can someone tell me if the dealers are full of it. They are telling me that the rebates can change when the truck arrives. I told them I won't order then. That's insane. You mean to tell me people have to gamble when ordering a vehicle we are talking
thousands of dollars. when I ordered my last truck, they told me the price could change Too. I told them I wasnt paying more than what we agreed on and they circled the price and I signed. They put the payments in writing(after we added on everything). Did this change or are they giving me crap.

That is why the 6.4 makes a difference in the 2500's. The payload difference between a 2500 and a 3500 6.4 is about 500 lbs if I remember right. That is why for the 6.4 I would get a 2500 but for the 6.7 step up to a 3500.

I'm not sure on this and it would be very stress full but until you sign the papers nothing is a guarantee. But when the truck arrives don't take ownership of they change things on you. That what I would say. If you sign them it's done for nothing they can change. It seems to me the rebates would apply at the time of sell whether that happens when you order the truck or take possession of it I'm not sure never ordered a truck from the factory before.

I was working with 2 different dealers before I ordered my truck. One dealer guaranteed me the rebates that were current and said they would include any new ones (at the time of delivery) that would make my price of my truck less. The other dealer wouldn't guarantee me the current rebates. Needless to say, I went with the first dealer.

The way I've seen it when I ordered my Explorer was I got rebates for when I ordered and then if at the time of delivery they were better, I got those. they guaranteed me the better of the two.

call dennis dillion or dave smith of Idaho.. you can fly to them both for 100$ and they will pick u up at the air port.. both of these dealers sell **** loads of trucks.. and they will get u I nto it for at least 10k back of Msrp. I think dave smith has some thing like 1200 rams on their lot at all times.. definetly worth browsing the on line selection while taking a ****.. and even more worth it to call me while On a break at work... money is money.. even if after fuel u only saved 1k.. that's 1k u can spend somewhere else...;)
