If you constantly drive over 130mph go for it. Or if you're trying to deflect wind over a trailer, that would make sense.

So in NASCAR when they had the Dodge and Plymouths with the wings it was such an unfair advantage that they banned them. So bottom line, they work at keeping your truck seated on the pavement at higher speeds. Read here if you like..

So IMO I like the wings, just not on a 4x4 and I happened to have a 4x4 and love most 4x4's. For you Ram streeters, I like the wing. I don't know why people say they aren't effective on a truck. To know this we would have to know the aerodynamics of the truck under various speeds. Side winds and other factors I'm sure will help. One of the problems with trucks is how light the beds are compared to how heavy the front is. Any down force on the back will pay dividends IMO/

Uhmmm those wings on the Daytona and Superbird were actually not doing much of anything until about 160 mph and up, so pretty much useless on a truck in my opinion, but hey they look great on certain cars....Not trucks.

It's your truck, do what makes you happy. May not be everyone's cup of tea but who cars if you like it.

I personally don't like them on trucks, always like the subtle lip spoilers on cars anyway.

If nothing else is certainly is a piece of Dodge history. Aside from hanging a confederate flag, this is another way of letting the world know you embrace your Dodgeness, w/o all the stigma for the flag.

I am not saying they work for sure, but I would need proof they don't before I bought it as fact. Trucks are so front heavy anything would help IMO at freeway speeds. I have broke sideways in many trucks not even trying to in the rain, and that has never happened to me in any SUV or car. Maybe a big part of me just wants the wing to work as opposed to it actually working, and I certainly don't think they do anything at city speeds. Maybe it would be better to put a 200 pound bumper on the back for me anyhow.

True. The rear and front spoiler on my SRT is functional. Comes into play at speeds above 150 mph.

That's also why you can't get the "Go Wing" from the factory on an SRT. R/T's are limited to 142 mph. They can run whatever they want. Go Wings, Shaker Hoods, and their spoilers are a little shorter than the SRT's.

They found out the hard way with the Prototype Challengers they were showing at the car shows in 06/07. They went through 8 hoods and lifted the back end.

You can't compare a car that is already seated in the ground by its natural configuration and a truck that is raised so high by its nature. It would take much less force to work on a truck then a car. Again, not saying they are functional but I would like to see some kind of proof. All the nascar trucks have had aggressive spoilers and travel at a much lower speed then the cars. So read this...

So if air can have such an effect on a stock truck wearing a spoiler at highway speeds, why would a wing not work? Bottom line if wind is all over the spoiler, would it not be all over the wing, which is even higher?

I am just curios and I think this is a good discussion, keep the opinions coming.

Wow. My eyes! My eyes!

Wind is wind. Some of the lift is caused by the turbulence that can swirl behind the rear defuser as well. Negative pressure in the back. Kind of the same principle as having a smoke in a car with the window cracked open. Venturie effect. The air outside rushes faster than the still air inside.

It does add some down force as well, but the 2 work hand in hand. Aerodynamics play a part as well. The air can be faster right next to the body of a car than away from it.

I can't see it helping a truck as much unless it's dropped right down to the ground. The speed of the air has to travel faster over than under to push it down. Too high up and the pressures equalizes. No advantage.

A Nascar truck is right down on the ground. A 1500 Ram's not even close.

A 911 has a spoiler that raises at speed above 60. The Crossfire had this as well I think?

The Daytona wing? Might work on a old Nascar, but it's still going above 150 mph. Not sure I'd want to test my Ram at that speed. Doubt it would get there.

This looks good IMO. It isn't so huge that it looks out of place and it follows the lines of the truck nicely. Plus being mounted on the cover doesn't change the functionality of the bed.

I like cover spoilers like the one posted above but after that I can't take away from the functionality of my bed since my truck is basically my muscle car and furniture mover all rolled up into one.

Damn! :jawdrop: When I read the title of this thread it made me hungry. If the wing is not one of those what in the world is that type I like them. :waytogo:

I believe a spoiler would be far more beneficial than a wing, on a truck. Probably why Nascar is using the spoiler vs the wing, and even when they tried the wing on the Cup cars, they didn't attempt it on the Trucks.

This type on the other hand looks silly. I bought this thing on a whim, set it on the bed rails to see how it looked then immediately removed it. Couldn't drive around with that on there.

I am not a fan of wings on a truck myself. If I had to choose 1 for looks, it would be the bed mounted SRT-10 wing. It obviously is not practical for anyone that puts anything in the bed, but it is the best looking of the wings I have seen. The Daytona style is just too tall IMO, and the bed cover mounted wing just looks awkward to me for some reason.

This is all personal opinion though. If you like how it looks, then go for it.

Just wanted to point out a fun fact about the wing on the super bird that most people may not know.
The wing was not so tall for down force, but simply so that the trunk could be opened. They wanted the wing mounted to the body not the trunk so that it could be relatively close to the width of the car. Keep in mind that during that time frame, spoilers weren't mounted the way they are on ricers.

Happy wheeling!
