Hello, the street I live on is a downward hill. When I drive down it first thing, it will not shift. It will rev to 3K. I stop at stop sign and it shifts fine after that. This doesn't seem to be normal is it? Thank-you, Nick

I believe part of the warm up procedure for these trucks is to hold gears longer so the engines warm up a little quicker. Between that and the cold transmission fluid, I'm guessing it is doing what it is designed to do even though it doesn't seem right. If you do a search on the forum, you'll find that quite a few people see similar symptoms while cold. As a sanity check, you might try driving down when the engine/tranny is good and warm to see if there are differences.

That makes sense as it only does it first thing in the morning. With my car, I shift it to second or neutral and coast it. Thank-you for replying. Nick

Actually Nick, no that isnt normal. It is normal for the trans to hold 2nd and 3rd when cold but first typically shifts normally no matter what. If you give it extra gas though, it will hold gears longer in 1st as well when cold. Try gently accelerating instead of how you normally accelerate and see what happens

Mine does the same thing on the first shifts, especially in colder weather. Plenty of others have reported the same. Seems normal to me.

Thank-you for the feedback. This isn't my daily so I will drive it to work tomorrow. At the end of my driveway, it is straight down, I barely give it the juice and then coast. It gets up to 3k and I use the brake to slow it down to see if it will shift. I will let you know tomorrow how it goes.

That's definitely not normal... unless you're like 80 below zero it should definitely shift sooner

Very similar to my situation. My driveway is about a 40 degree slope from the street, then my street is about a 1/8 mile 25 degree downslope to the next road. I use the brake to keep speed around 12mph. Depending on how long I let the truck warm up and the outside temp, I’ll stay in 1st gear until the end of the street. Once it shifts the first time, though, it’s smooth sailing from then on. Been doing it since I bought it in July ‘18. No problems at all.
