I was loving my new 2024 RAM 1500 - when I discovered that it is not possible to install a Roll N Lock retractable tonneau cover with the multi-function tailgate (MFT). The culprit is apparently the angle brackets at the forward end of the bed that provide necessary stiffening for the MFT.

I am advised by local professionals that an alternative bracket can be substituted, but that will still require modifications to the canister that will void the warranty.

Has anyone been able to resolve this problem WITHOUT voiding the warranty, or messing up the function of the MFT? Or, are there other suppliers of high quality retractables (other than Roll N Lock) that work with this truck? I need the groove on the top of the rail so I can mount Yakima "Landing Pads" to place bike racks at chest-high level, but still gain access to the bed of the truck without having to disassemble everything...

Tks for your advice.

Have a 2021 1500 5.7' MFT: I am in the middle of the tonneau cover nightmare at this very moment. After talking to the Pace Edwards support team, I bought a Jackrabbit full metal tonneau cover. You are correct a special bracket is required as the factory ones are way too large. At the recommendation of the Pace Edwards' folks, I contacted Right on Bracket company and purchased a "Ram Truck Replacement Bracket kit 21,22,23,24.

This bracket measures 6/16" thick, and still required orig OEM mounting hardware. Went to a local hardware store and found 8mm-1.25 counter sunk stainless steel bolts. Feeling good about flush mounts bolts and went to test mount tonneau cannister only to find out the special brackets are 2/16"'s too thick.

The cannister is 61 12/16" long and my bracket to bracket spacing is 61 9/16". Have reached out to local machine shops, and nobody wants to grind off 2/16" from each bracket. If i can't find a way to grind off the 2/16" then I'm throwing the towel in and sending everything back. It shouldn't be this friggin hard to install a tonneau cover.
