I have my 2012 Ram 1500 that i just finished building it the way i always wanted it. Lift with rims and tires. I am now debating if i want an ecodiesel. I only have 37k on my truck as i don't drive it daily and i've only owned it for a year. i am swaying for an Ecodiesel over a 3/4 ton because for what i do i think a 3/4 ton may be overkill. I avg about 14 city/hwy and 11 mpg towing my boat. Other than that i do alot of camping but thats all. Doing some research the 1500 frame and diesel motor just seems more practical than a 3/4 ton cummins. Would i save that much more gas to make it worth trading? Has anyone taken this route? It is also so hard to find one in black that has all the bells and whistles like mine thats local. Everyones thoughts will be appreciated.

thanks

Have you had yours evaluated by a dealer for trade? It might be worth more than you think... I know mine was.

Also the difference in features and interior styling is huge IMO between the 2012 and older trucks compared to the 2013+

I have not yet. I am still debating if the trade off would be worth the time and effort not to mention money involved.

How many miles would you put on in a year? You'd need to put around 60,000 miles to make the motor pay for itself. At least when comparing fuel prices in my area.

I wouldn't make the switch strictly for the Eco diesel. By the time you calculate the premium cost of the Eco diesel vs the fact diesel is more expensive than gas it takes a long time to pay for its self (even though diesel is finaly getting close to the price of gas) my opnion if you like your truck and happy with your mods turn the economy meter off and enjoy that good looking truck!

I TOTALLY agree with 14 hemi express if it was me do not do it. I was talking to my parts guy at dealership and the maintenance of an eco diecel would kill you 16th of full synthetic $10 a quart and has to be done at dealership dealer only oil filter just what I heard and they are always in the shop getting something fixed computer and electrical issues. Just what I have heard.
I have the 2014 6.4 2500 4x4 crew cab tradesman and love it and got it for $6000 cheaper for same model 1500 4x4 That was the deciding factor for me bigger truck cheaper price more power lol. Go Big Or Go Home LOL.
I get better gas than 1500 5.7's more power better gas mileage. I get 14 city 15.5-16 combo city and hwy 18.5-19 on hwy. Hope this helps you make your decision.

I wouldn't do it just for the Ecodiesel...but like Yamaha said, the interior styling in the 13 and newer is a huge jump from anything 2012 or earlier...can't hurt to see what your truck is worth on trade, you can always transfer over the goodies you have on your 12 to the 15

I'd say hold off. Ram has held on to this body style for too long for their history, so I feel a switch coming in a year or two. The EcoDiesel is technically the Sprinter engine, but they have obviously modified it for the Ram and it is still fairly new for them (Never buy the first year of any brand/model that just did a huge change, IMO).

But that's just me. Obviously I can't follow my own advice as I have a 14 sitting outside, but just saying, lol.

I can give you a rough idea, I have a 2012 Ram 1500 Quad cab Express. 4x4. 38K miles, dealer maintained, stock other then line-x, tonneau, side steps, mud flaps and weather tech floor mats and a S&B intake. has two small dents, no rust, runs like a top. I was curious so I asked. 18500 for it. I paid 28900 for it 3 years ago. this is in New England, but I see them for sale all the time for 20-26K bucks. For me personally, I would want to get 19500 or 20k, but I don't need to trade it in right now. you have a much nicer truck so im sure you will get more, but the mods would be better off removed and sold separately.

There is a $2k incentive right now for current owners on 2wd Ram purchases. Dakota applies as well.

I'm with jcj on this one...if you can wait a year or maybe 2, ram will come out with a newer truck. That's what I'm doing...either a new truck in 2-3 years or pay off and get a RT charger :)

I've been checking out the LX FORUM website, and I'm so jealous because it's a great car. 3 years ago I traded in my 06 charger RT (Had it for 5 years) and I miss that car so much. I needed a truck so I had to give it up...but I miss that car...I will get it, just have to wait.
