Worth the investment moving to 295/70/17 Tires? If you’ve done it, would you do it again?

I measured my garage door opening. I have 1.75 inches to spare before the satellite antenna hits the top. I’d like to continue to be able to pull it into the garage.

I mentioned switching out my wheels, and I got so many responses to change out my tires. :)

To play it safe, I was going look at 295/70/17 tires. In particular the Mastercraft Courser MXT. I had them before, they were great and priced very well.

Be honest, is it worth the investment to go up by roughly .75 inches? Have others done it? If so, would you do it all over again?

I'm not comfortable testing out 35s, and realizing it doesn't fit because my measuring was off by a quarter of an inch.

Thanks

ps sorry for all these tire and wheel questions....

I’ll try to get a measurement from floor to door lip when open! (Just for some comparison numbers for you!)

I think the investment may be in better tires. I got 4500 out of my stockers before they were completely junk. If you can get a good deal on that tire and still works for your needs then go for it. I was thinking about that size after this set is done. Full discloser though. I don't have a real problem with the stock size tires.

I'm in the same boat as you. I actually like the size of the stock tires. I kinda like the look of the stock wheels to (which is good news for my wallet). I'll likely consider aftermarket wheels once I need to replace tires, but if I change I'll keep a similar size in both. I may also go the route of powder coating the stock wheels if I want a different look (depending on price compared to buying new wheels and selling the stock ones).

I think the wheels are just fine but the stock size is just so dang small. I wish there were more 36" options out there. I think the 35's are a tad small and the 37's a bit big.

Agreed. 36's used to be prevalent.

@Grand Mesa can tell you what is a true 36” tire. He is well versed.

I’m also sick and tire of society not giving a damn anymore. It escalated my attention to detail to a level that’s even annoying to me.

pretty much most 37’s are basically a big 36. Unless its bfg, then its a big 35 LOL.
So maybe he wants a normal (small) 36? LOL

I got a PM that stated:

The 315 70R18 Toyo Open Country M/T is 35.7". That is probably a very good PW fit on aftermarket wheels with the right width and offset.

The not so practical 36" tires can be found here...

I have considered going to an 18 for the Toyo as well. They are a little bit wide at 13 is my only concern. Could probably fit a BFG 37/12.50 just as easy if not easier. Wish it was a 305/70-18

You can get a cooper stt pro in that size. It is a nice size tire.

Noticably taller, same width as stock.

I like them, but I'll go 315/70 or 35x12.5 next time. Only because there are a TON more options!

I really wish there was a 36x11. I like skinny tires a lot. MPG doesn't suffer, and you still get all that off road squishy sidewall. Used to run 255/80r16 on a Tacoma. They were awesome.

The 315s look skinny in my opinion. Maybe it’s the 8 inch wide rims. The truck Is so big. Haha
