Wrecked my 2009 4th Gen :(

Welllll sitting a red light minding my own business flipping through radio stations and BAM! Teenage girl hits me square in the rear in her 2001 Ford Ranger. Her truck was totaled and she does not have insurance.
I have insurance but would prefer not to report the wreck in fear that my rate will get affected, I also promised her I would wait before taking any action to see what the cost will actually be. She has promised to cover the cost and I'm trying to be decent.

I was able to find the tail lights , my tail gate is ok.

Would anyone happen to know where I can purchase a new or used truck bed from? And possibly a rear bumper. (Other than the dealer) ha'!

It measures approx 82" long. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks guys.

I agree with them and hope you did call the cops and make a report people now days arent always as honest as you would like (something similar happend to my wife) sad to say but true I hope your case proves me wrong but I would have gone through the insurance especially if you need a bed and the damage was bad enough to total her truck your frame could have a possibility of being bent just my opinion and like you I had an incident like you were the other vehicle had no insurance registration nothing and my insurance didn't go up

I'd do a search at car-parts.com for the bed, might be able to find one through a junk yard near by that won't cost you a fortune.

As many said, call the cops. I didn't once...ONCE. It was a massive mistake. Same thing, got swiped by a girl. She said she would cover everything, got all her information. Called her that night, her father told me to go to hell. I had photos of both cars but none of her driving or in the car so I couldn't prove who was operating the car when it hit me. Tried to take it to the cops, they couldn't do anything. $2k out of my pocket later, needles to say I was MAD.

If she was uninsured, that means she's irresponsible already. You trust her to take care of you?

The city here sometimes issues states where they actually request that you DON'T call the cops unless there are injuries which I personally think is total BS.

I learned my lesson. I will NEVER do that again. Young and stupid and I lost.

They do that when it's snowing heavily, they claim it's to allow more police response for serious emergencies which makes some sense but in reality if they need more officers on duty, get more officers on duty... I shouldn't have to take a risk not calling the police because they don't have enough people on duty.

IMO best to just start shelling out on your own now. *IF* you get lucky and this chick is stand up, go buy a lottery ticket because you are one lucky guy. Don't hold your breath though. She just got a free pass.

Kind of figured this is how this thread would turn out. I Guess I asked for it...

The girl did not have insurance which is illegal in this state so no I Did not call the cops, I felt sorry for her. She is still in contact with me and I also have a cell picture of both vehicles, her plate, and her DL. Along with our text so if it came to that I believe I would have a case however i'm hoping it does not. I also spoke with her father on scene,

I joined here at request of a friend of mine and have already bought one part from a nice member here. I was hoping I could just find someone who has converted to a welding rig, or flat bed but I also realize that is more common on the 2500 and heavier.

Thanks anyways I will consider other options.

We're not trying to bring you down. Just trying to share our experiences, we've all made mistakes and we've all learned from them. It sounds like this girl might take care of you, I hope she does. Keep asking around for a bed, you never know! As a few people mentioned you might get lucky at a local yard. Can't hurt to call.

1500BR, we are just trying to put some starch in you my man. It isn't mean to hold someone responsible for their actions, it is mean not to. She didn't learn the lesson she was supposed to learn because you didn't hold her to account. Instead she learned that she can game the system because she is a girl. You hurt her not helped her IMO.

I'm a police dispatcher I deal with things like this all the time. I would have absolutely called the cops. From what it sounds like she is looking at a few summary offenses, which means fines and drivers points. probably not enough points for her to lose her license unless she already had a few. You get the police report that proves that you were not at fault and your insurance doesn't go up. She goes to court and sets up a payment plan for the fines I have heard of people paying as little as $10 a month till it paid off so it's no great financial burden. She learns a lesson about driving without insurance and how to make regular monthly payments.
