Just to show another option, I have a Full Fiberglass Cover (Mopar) on my 2019. Does limit access and useability of the bed. But I have a 14 foot trailer to use to get stuff. The cover is not hard to take off but is a 2 person op. Just me, 2 doggos and a hossie here.

Now if U have Ram Boxes, not sure what Mopar is gonna offer as I do not have Ram Box Option.
I’ve never seen a full fiberglass cover for a Rambox bed. Doesn’t mean they don’t exist, but I suspect it’s not a feasible option for most Rambox owners.

Since I did not have boxes, never occurred. But I wonder, could you not get a full tonneau cover and just open the cover to access boxes? Small PITA but just thinking outside the box. Just not sure how far forward the boxes would be if U could open the box fully, thinking so far out the box not even in the same packing company, LOL.

I have a 2026 2500 Rebel with Ram Boxes. That was the lowest trim level I could get with Ram Boxes. No idea where that line is with a 1500. I also ordered the OEM tonneau cover for it along with the BUG so I got the silver rails as well. While I do intend to eventually get a retractable hard cover, I wanted something to keep things dry in the bed while I shop for it. I like the OEM tonneau for what it is; a nicely made soft tri-fold. It’s well made and easy to get on and off if needed. The latches are much easier to use than what I have for my wife’s 1500 and they are, essentially, self adjusting. I like it and keeps me from being in a rush to find the exact retractable cover I want.

Just a guess here, but since the rambox lids sit so far forward you'd probably need to open a hard tonneau cover a significant amount to be able to open the rambox lid enough to actually use it.

My comments in this thread are for 1500's only. HD's still use 4th gen sheet metal so different rules apply. I've never owned a 2500 with ramboxes so I can't comment on what you get with the BUG or OEM bed cover. Sounds like it comes with the silver rails so you're set for whichever aftermarket you decide on. It's the black rails that come with the 1500 OEM tonneau cover that is at issue here.

I also have the RamBox in my 2020 2500, i know I’m not in the 1500 but a RamBox is a RamBox just bed length , the problem is to get a good hard or roll up is going to cost upwards of $1K+, i have a roll up Bakflip Revolver 2 on my truck so i can see out the back window, but in winter very hard to roll, i dont have a garage. I will be in the same boat as you when i order my new truck and back to a 1500 with RamBox . I wish you the best and the insurance company’s here in NY will only cover stolen goods with a hard cover, too easy to cut soft.

When I ordered my 2023 I knew I was putting a canopy on the rig and tried to delete the tonneau. I was told I couldn't so I simply sold it. It was off the truck and in my garage 30 minutes after I got home.

I will be ordering a new Big Horn and will get it with a Rambox, but I want to know if
I should order it with the tonneau cover or get one later.
Any feedback from someone that has had the factory cover would be appreciated!
Thanks!
I'm still using the factory trifold tonneau on my 2015 w/ Rambox. It is surprisingly very durable. two small tears, one caused by me, but still no wear through.

I’ve had the roll n lock with cargo manager since 19,my only complaint is the clearance is a set height and sometimes it’s a drawback.IMG_1074.jpegIMG_0368.jpeg

I sort of treat this sort of decision the same for most accessories that can be specified in build. I do my research ahead of time regarding what I'm looking for in the accessory and what is available aftermarket and then the cost the accessory adds to the bill. In many cases, the item included in the build is the same as I would buy aftermarket and usually a better price. There is a broad range of options when it comes to tonneau covers and personal preference enters into it a lot as well as cost. For my current truck, I had the luxury of replacing a RAM with the same bed so I temporarily simply transferred the tonneau. I have never liked the tri-folds or snap-on covers so those were out. I finally settled on electric Roll-N-Lock and have been very pleased with it. It has the smallest canister of all the rollers. I also looked at wheels and several other things and went with factory build on most of the rest. Most of the options that are available through the dealer I have purchased elsewhere. I has more to do with your requirements and pocketbook than anything else.

My first RAM had the RAMBOX and I liked them, but they do narrow the bed I believe. That truck failed to stop a falling tree so I looked for RAMBOX again but couldn’t find it. The replacement truck has the tri-fold factory cover and no RAMBOXes. I store stuff (tow hitch, ratchets, etc) in the two wells under the back seat mats and under the rear seat. I also keep a milk crate in the bed attached to one of the rear hooks with a bungee (great for keeping liquids from slamming around the bed, like a gallon of paint).

The tri-fold works well and after a good coating of tonneau protector it has held up well. I feel like the fabric and webbing below would be very hard to cut through, and I’ve never had a theft problem (but I’m not in a high-risk area). The negative is that the cover is wider than the cab so when folded it really doesn’t fit in the back seat floor (can maybe put it in diagonal?), and it is too long for the bed on my truck so the tailgate has to be open or it has to be leaning. With a full bed, it is in the way. So I take it off before we go getting stuff. It is easy to put on and off, and the attachments are very easy to use by feel, once you know how they work.
