But getting above 500 HP is a whole new science of parts.
I would agree to that comment.
Like most of the fueling shops I talk to once you cross the 450-500 HP range you have a new animal that is no long reliable and street manners are less likely. I know there is going to be a few that will speak up about this comment but I will challenege you to make it to 1 million miles without blowing the truck up or breaking every weekend.
Disagree with that comment and have had the last two trucks to back me up on that.My 95 2wd Ext Cab which I had built back in 96 was bought new from the local dealership here and had 25miles on it.I sold it when it had 330k on it and most of the mileage back then was from towing my NHRA Superstocker around the country chasing points.Never really dyno'd much back then but I had a early DTT built trans,it was studded, pump work and a set of PDR Hx40/HT3B twins on it for towing. That truck today is sstill in the hands of the gentleman who bought it from me and he still tows campers for a local company and when I seen the truck before Winter it was over 800k on it with only minor work and nothing internal done to it at all.The trans he had updated to a Goerand and he swapped the top turbo to a HTT 62mm S300 framed charger with a stainless steel housing. The body was showing some signs of wear but mechanically I was told other than normal expected failures he still loved the truck as much then as he did when he bought it from me back then.
My 98 12v which I had was bought with 12k on it and sold when I had 290k on it and it was built from the time I bought it until it left me.It spent tons of time on a dynojet, dragged a car trailer around and was occasionaly hooked to a sled.Other than normal wear and tear items I had zero issues with it and it had been over 500hp for most of its life while I owned it.
As for how my CR will hold up all I can offer is this....
I have a good friend of mine who specializes in CR performance here locally. His 2005 truck has been seen at most all of the Carlisle shows on the jet and is another 800+ hp ride. That truck was built way back when CR performance was in its infancy and had less than 10k on it and today that truck is well into the mid 100k's for mileage. It is used all winter long as a plow truck and is driven like it has been stolen and not given much rest.I would feel very fortunate to be able to get the maount of pleasure out of my truck that he has and look forward to watching the miles move along.
The one thing I will say for sure about power levels....
IF you think your going to build a truck to higher levels and not plan on any maintence then you are asking for problems. They do require a bit more attention than a stock or lightly modified truck but can be as reliable if the owners pays attention to the little things.
I would also agree to what ramhunter has said we all have different uses for our trucks. My trucks do spend alot of time on the jet but are ALWAYS driven to shows no matter where they are and never see time on a trailer.I bought and built my trucks to drive and they will be driven and not trailered.......Andy
