It filters out bad engine oil, keeps a cleaner intake. Story short keep your engine running longer and more clean. A clean engine means better mpg's and keeps your engine from knocking. Reduces carbon buildup in your engine. Love it or hate it it's beneficial it does no harm.

To be a little more accurate, it separates the oil vapor from the air in the PCV system. There are scores of threads here and all over the web about them.
Many people find them invaluable, others find them useless.

Also, you don't have to pay for a Billet Tech can. There are others out there that are cheaper and perform the same function.
Some guys have even used air compressor oil separators.

Best investment I have made with my new 5.7L! After 3500 miles my BT Catch Can was almost 1/2 full.

I can not imagine all that oil going into the intake.

I had a customer over yesterday to talk about future mods for his truck, and decided to show him my catch can while he was here. In only 1 week, my can was almost half full. The oil that the catch can collects would otherwise be dumped into your intake manifold. This oil will build up on your throttle body and inside your intake, and when it mixes with your fuel, it lowers the octane rating of your fuel. Lower octane fuel leads to detonation, which then leads to pulled timing and a loss of power. Catch can is highly recommended.

If your engine is putting that much "oil into your catch can in. Week, I think you have bigger problems.

I am definitely in the boat that it can't hurt. But I think the octane claims are a little stretched. If I burn 100 litres of fuel a week, and my catch can collects 250 mls, or about a cup (which is really high) and we assume that oil has zero octane, it would drop the octane level from 87 to 86.78. But oil burns and therefore has an octane greater than zero.

Just like with cold air intakes, throte body spacers, etc. adding a catch can will have no impact on daily driving. There could be long term reliability benefits, but I don't know if that's been proven yet or not. I would like to see an independent lab put a few of these motors on a test stand some with catch cans and some without, run them for 100,000 miles and rip the engine apart to see where things stand.

My Sons Brand New Mustang Shelby GT500 put the exact same amount in after 3100 miles. Mostly Interstate driving at 70-80 mph.

Around 1/2 Full.

Dan-->U made a smart investment

I myself don't do alot of stop & go driving-->Mostly 65-70mph.

With a catch can do you have to add more oil? and what if you dont' change it when it's full?

The can is only catching the oil that is already being pumped through your PCV valve. This means that your motor is already pumping the same amount of oil out whether you have a catch can installed or not.

In short, no you do not have to refill your oil after dumping the catch can out. Just keep your normal oil change intervals, and you will be fine.

As for letting the can fill up...you do not want to ever allow this to happen. If the can reaches the full level, then it will pump straight oil into your intake. This is why I believe they do not install catch cans from the factory. They know that some people will not keep up with maintenance and allow the can to fill up all the way.

Could you avoid the emptying by plumbing it back to the crank case or oil pan. That would allow any oil collected to be put back in circulation.
