Just finished the first oil change on the new 17 ram 5.7. Used PUP and went with the RP 10-48 but when its on it looks like this. Is this normal? Thanks all.
There is nothing about filling that gap that would make an oil filter not leak better or worse. The connection is a plate that the gasket on the oil filter buts up against. I do find it puzzling, maybe it would be a little better to have the biggest filter possible, but every canister oil filter made depends on the gasket to prevent leaking. It is the gasket connection that is important, not how it fills that spot.
If you see a bypass kit, you see all that matters is where the gasket buts up to prevent leaks. Any filter that has a gasket that fits this plate, will work with this bypass filter. Threads are pretty universal, but some bypass kits want you to use their filters so they add a different thread, all that matters is where the gasket fits.
Thanks for responding. It is smaller than the factory in circumference. However when compared to the Fram ultra for our trucks its the same size. There is no leak and the 1048 is the RP filter for my truck so it is just baffling it fits weird.
Im on page 665 of the synthetic oil post. Searched on here, another site, and YouTube and can not find anything that has any info on this.
Royal Purple is a great filter, but there are other great filters as well. Fram Ultra, Wix XP, Napa Platinum, Amsoil EA, and maybe the new srt filters as well, are all synthetic fiber.
Wanted to share what Royal Purple responded back with in regards to the gap and filter information.
Thank you for writing back with that information. Our Royal Purple Extended Life Oil Filter #10-48 cross references with and is our recommended replacement for the OEM Mopar 04892339AA oil filter that you removed from your 2017 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi engine. The reason why you are seeing this clearance on the filter mount is because our 10-48 oil filter is not as wide as the OEM Mopar 04892339AA oil filter. This is not uncommon to see from manufacturer to manufacturer a difference in the height or outside diameter (width) between the filters that cross reference with each other because of there being so much filter overlap on applications.
The main concern is making sure that the filter has the same thread size, the gasket dimensions match up, and that the by-pass valve pressure rating is in range of the manufacturer. Our Royal Purple Extended Life Oil Filter #10-48 has the same thread size as the OEM Mopar 04892339AA oil filter and best matches the gasket dimensions and by-pass valve pressure ratings of the OEM oil filter.
Functionally there is no issue using our smaller Royal Purple 10-48 oil filter in place of the OEM Mopar 04892339AA oil filter. Our Royal Purple Extended Life Oil Filter #10-48 will still be a step above the Mopar 04892339AA oil filter. Our Royal Purple Extended Life Oil Filters use a 100% screen-backed synthetic micro-glass media that provides superior filtration while keeping flow restrictions low.
Thank you for inquiring about Royal Purple, and have a great day!
So with that being said I will continue on and use this again in the change or see what is better if any to go with then.
