Does anyone know how good the $50 cold air intakes are on eBay. Just curious I kinda figure they aren't worth much.

I don't know about the E-Bay CAI's, I run a K&N Performance II CAI with a AirRam cold air duct.

MAP sensor vehicles like these Dodge Rams, CAI do nothing. The computer adjusts for the extra air.

So they're pointless?

That is my crankcase air filter which prevents hot oily air from being drawn into my cold air duct. This helps keep the TB from getting so oily.

I don't know what kind of problem you have with a CAI, because after installing the K&N, my highway MPG increased 2 MPG. As long as I keep my foot out of the throttle, I consistently get better gas mileage. :)

Harold what's something like that cost, and I assume it's worth it, how is it to install? I haven't cleaned my TB yet.

The K&N CAI cost me $219.99 thru Amazon.com and the breather washable filter was $28.97 also from Amazon.com. The instructions are very good, but as I read in other posts/forums, the hardware isn't the best. Unless your TB is dirty, cleaning it is not a requirement to install the K&N CAI. I also installed a AirRam air scoop to help direct air into the inner fender, this helps flow air into the CAI air filter. I got it from airram.com for $39.00. You can see the scoop installed on my truck in the attached photo.

I looked on Amazon for it but couldn't find it, I assume that u have a tuner with ur mods Harrold, I have a after market exhaust, has a flomaster that dumps out the passenger side. When I get on it I can hear air flowing pretty good out the exhaust. So I'm thinking plugs, and maybe a 180 degree thermostat shod be ok then think a programmer , what ya think?

Sounds good to me. I have the SuperChips Cortex 3950 Tuner and I loaded the 91 Octane Performance tune. I too have performance exhaust that exits on the passenger side in front of the tire. I also have the Jet 180 t stat. along with the Flex-a-lite Efan. The tuner brings it all together and makes a lot of difference in the power of the engine and much better transmission shifting.
When you were on Amazon did you enter K&N 57-1533? The cold air intake should have came up. This model fits all 03' thru 08' 5.7L Hemi powered trucks.

Let's think about what a CAI does or suppose to do. CAI is a "cold air induction" and is suppose to supply cooler air then what otherwise would be present. In doing this it should present the least amount of restriction possible. In some cases if the inlet is located in a high pressure zone it can also provide a ram effect at speed. The cooler the air the richer the PCM adjusts the AFR and adds timing. Hence the use of a Power Wire to also take advantage of what the PCM see's as lower inlet temperature. Problem I see with Ram inductions is that they are sealed with no drain off and if water gets into it, then the water goes into the engine. (race only in my book) Under hood temps get really high in traffic and staging lanes. Closed loop (normal condition) the PCM attempts to maintain optimum AFR. Free flowing intake and exhaust enhance the ability of the engine to make power and is a vital part of your performance plan. It is often commented that our hemi's really like cold weather. That is simply an indication how cooler air affects performance. I like to keep things simple and relatively clean, unfortunately a good CAI isn't always pretty. My air box/tube are triple wrapped with insulation.

I'm pretty sure MAP (Mass Air Pressure) is a Ford, not Ram design flaw. You have an Intake Air Temp (IAT) on your Hemi.

Dodge uses a MAP sensor - Manifold Absolute Pressure
Ford uses a MAF sensor - Mass Air Flow

IMO, anytime the intake hat can be removed there is an improvement to be had.
