So this is my 3rd post within a week here... just got this 01 ram 5.9 gasser and have been around the clock bringing it back to life with body work and engine work. First off thanks for the help.... Anyway, I took the throttle body off to clean and replace the gasket as well as see what's going on down in the engine and this is when I took these pictures... I believe the previous owner had this truck sitting for a while cause I had to do some injectors and fuel pump. But it almost looks like rust or something in there? Should it look like that? Is it suppose to be that dirty down there? Truck has 143xxx runs good...

That looks to me to be oil spray from the PCV valve, looks like its dried up/run off leaving carbon in its place. That won't hurt anything and is completely normal in that amount.

If you don't like they way it looks, you can take some seafoam in a eyedropper and spray some down there and let it sit for a minute then start the engine and sip the rest of the can into the intake.
