Sorry to bring up an old thread. But to the original post, did you have to thread the plastic part on the handles. I bought some handles and they are not threaded either. Curious on how you finished yours

They will thread as you tighten the nut. As the op said put the nuts on all the handles and get them threaded off the truck first then remove the nuts and put the handles on the doors and reinstall the nuts.

Not a fun job. It's a beast but definitely An improvement. Ordered the black painted handles from Avondale. They were 215 shipped. I'll sell the original handles for someone who wants to paint them. I swapped out the door panels to the laramie ones. Both upgrades made a huge difference.

So much easier to swap. I got quotes of 40 apiece to paint. Seemed like a better idea to buy a painted set.

Took mine off before I traded in. I forgot how long it took. Now I have a set to sell.

Hey thanks', you just gave me a great idea how to fix my door locks on my 97 Jeep that won't stay in because of the crappy clips that's supplied.

I'm looking at the Dorman brand that Rock Auto offers. They range from $11-70. Anyone have these?

How do people get their arm through that hole? I have been trying to reach the front bolt and the rods and my arm doesn't even come close to getting up there. Is it possible to take that whole black panel off?

You have to pick your poison on this mod. The black inner panel can come off but requires basically removing the windows out of the track and holder.

I got no magic pill for you on this other than when I did it, found it to be a colossal pain even after drilling the "holes". Just have to find the mojo and tool combination that can get the bolts off. A slim head ratchet and a ratcheting wrench can do wonders here.

Last bit of advice if you drop a bolt. Take the speaker out to get better access to the bottom seam. Magnetic pickup tool and inspection mirror comes in handy here.

Hindsight being 20/20, I would have skipped this mod had I know the trouble it was.
