imo as to amsoil in the SS 5-20 weight it is superior to all 5-20's I tried, the 5-30 is good too but if you didn't know what oil was in the truck you could not tell it from mobil1 or Pennzoil platinum in 5-30. Have not tried Quaker state. I'm sure Amsoil is a good oil and the signature series better than much of whats out there but I bet the lower xl and other is no better than wally world oils. I have fell out of love with the royal purple filter, I have had 3 episodes of fast ticking with it I never had one with fram ultra. It may be best to just go cheap, fram ultra and wally 5-30 like raven with QSUD or other API donut oil and change it every 4k,

That's what I did and it's working well. 5W30 QSUD and a Fram Ultra. Quietest my truck has been. In an overall opinion of noise, I think these motors are inherently noisey to begin with. This is my 3rd MDS Hemi, all 3 had some sort of noise. Never affected performance, just noise and the OCD it created in me.

you ran 0-30 SS amsoil didn't you? if so, give us a comparison of the two Amsoil and QSUD, please

Good info in the last 20 or so post .

Most know I'm running RL 40WT @ 3ea qt with 4ea qts of RL 30 wt cocktail .
Just wanted to give a quick update . I'm really liking it , pressures are consistent with my 7 qt fill of RL 5W -30 and the 7qts of PYB 20 wt ?

My current cocktail is 3-5 psig higher than the previously mentioned weights but consistent non the less .
Absolutely no MDS issues ...

I'm lazy about doing a UOA so I have no scientific backup other than sound wise, the QSUD has the slight edge. When I ran Amsoil 0w30, it was with a Wix XP filter. That filter in my opinion was a game changer as I started the OC with an Amsoil filter and didn't like the start up noise I heard. Changed to the XP, major improvement. The guys at BITOG hate on that filter big time due to its efficiency rating. That made me nervous so this OC I have an Ultra installed.

My guess is the flow of the XP is simply better due to its low efficiency. That being said, how much efficiency do you need?

As previously posted @ 55 mph it is 55 psig , @ 60 I believe it was 58 psig ...within a few psi of PYB 20 wt oil I ran a week ago .

Guys remember this , we are driving trucks here , not flying the space shuttle , our gauges are more than likely +- 5 - 7 psig to pass QC at the sweat shop manufacturer for Chrysler FIA . So factor that in before you are suprized of a 5 ish psi range ?differential.

Buddy , I'm in the same boat as you are my friend , I've only 1ea uoa under my belt with my oil of choice ( which gets HAMMERED ) here on a regular basis ?

I'm mainly going off of feel and sound as well .
For MY RAM 5.7L , it sure Like's the Redline oil , others not so much .
I've never bashed on their oil to my knowledge ? If I have I'm sure someone will chime in with a copied post of mine .... I would congratulate them .

Thing is with Blackstone Lab saying I should exceed 10,000 miles with Redline oil then everyone crying about the added cost just shouldn't imo , it cost me $101.00 filter and oil to do my last oil change , that's $50.50 each 5k , most people are scared to death to go beyond grandpa's 3k RULE much less 5k and even fewer would extend to 10k + like me and many others based on lab results.

I do max of 2ea oci a year and I feel with what REDLINE OILS bring to the table , I'm in better shape than anyone getting it done @ the dealer with their bulk oil out of date , full of condensation , mixed with whatever the 10$ per hr guy said ( uuhh yeh put that in that 500 gal container dude ) .

You never know what your getting ( Quality wise ) at the dealer or oil change shop .
I suggest everyone pours their own .

I've worked @ quick oil Chang shops ! 30 yrs ago ... Wow ! I'd never let them or the dealer change my oil again , especially after what I delt with at a local dealer of mine .

well , I'm stepping off my soap box now ..... let the Redline bashing begin

Hey, screw em! If it works for YOUR truck good stuff! Everyone else can pound sand! I am going to run Amsoil 5W-30 SS right now, because funds are tight. But I still want a proven product. Got a heck of a deal on a 12 QT case of 5W-30 from a local dealer and I figured with my truck and the wife's car coming due, what the heck. If it works great awesome, if not, I'm only out $40 for the case, and $30 for the filters. 400 miles till initial Oil change. Then I'll test it about 3k in and see what Blackstone says.

I just appreciate all the knowledge and info you guys have posted. Everyone likes something different, pour what works for you!

I sub'd the thread a while back hoping to see some folks with the v6 Pentastar posting in here but haven't seen it yet.

I have 1 more pre-paid dealer/FCA oil change on my VIN before I start looking at other options (4 oil changes for $80)

So I had this same engine in my Jeep, and it loved Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 with a Fram Filter! No rattle, great fuel economy, and it wasn't expensive.

Many off the shelf oils can do 10k for about 1/3 even 1/4 the cost. That is probably my biggest issue. You would need to push redline to 20k to make it pay.

Trust me Sir , even though Blackstone Labs suggested I go 10k + on a oci I personally do not feel comfortable with going over 5k ! ☆☆☆EDIT ☆☆☆ my Pepaw in me I guess ☆☆☆☆☆
It took everything I had to push my last OCI to over 5k , then 6 ,7 , 8 + + plus thousand miles with REDLINE 5W -30 oils !
Look here now , when I drained it out , it was transparent ! Not burnt up , not thin as water ( like the dealer bulk oil )
I'm confident the oil I'm using today is better than most .....better than all ? Well I just don't know the answer to that .
I guess time will tell ?

For NOW the buzz seems to be Amsoil in 20 wt , , I'm certinly not against Amsoil ; however, I'd most likely not run any oil in a V-8 Engine in a 20 wt , ( other than a high detergent $ $ cheep $$ flush ) in my trucks engine ☺
