They sell redline where you get your oil changed? If you are worried, just drain a qrt off, and save that puppy. My hemi takes 8 qrts to fill the dip stick, it is an oddity for sure, most take 7. You don't want the crank sitting in oil when you start the truck, I can wager a guess but if I'm wrong it can be a problem, the safe play is to drain off a qrt. take a pic of the level on the dip. I don't know how much room for error is in these hemi's. You want the oil to flow over internals, you don't want the internals submerged by oil.

Wow^^^

8 quarts?

Whats the deal?

I wonder if you compaired your dipstick to another hemi of the same year if you would notice a difference.... in length And hole location.

And im just going to get it out of the way....

Thats what she said!

Thank you, I'll double check and will look into the options.

Usually when they put in 7 quarts, it's at Low level (bottom hole) and I always add 1/2 quart more to bring it to the high level.

But now the level is well above the high mark...

I'm surprised that this situation even happened as the local shop is very competent, specializes in hemi, and is owned by two brothers, one of whom was doing the oil change.

Maybe any extra oil will just get sucked into the catch can, so i don't have to worry about it? :)

I just emptied it today, it was about 1/4 full.

Mine takes about 7.5 quarts using the larger 20-820 filter and exactly 7 quarts using the smaller 10-48 filter. It's the only thing I don't like about using the larger filter.

I would drain some off if they just dumped 8 in...

@SyN what does the transfer case in your new truck call for in the owner's manual? Is it still the unicorn tear fluid?

That's interesting, looks like mine should be taking 8 qts or damn close to it this spring when I use the RP 20-820 larger filter .
This is fine by me because I typically purchase my oil in 4qt Gallon containers and I always end up with a bit left over [emoji6][emoji6]

Dipsticks are not exact you should put in 7 with filter and worry about adding oil later. Probably why I have to add oil and some of you don’t.

Well if you are starting at 7.5 that makes sense because I start at 7 and then add a half quart every OCI. I have a valve cover leak too right now.

@SyN what does the transfer case in your new truck call for in the owner's manual? Is it still the unicorn tear fluid?

According to my manual this is what it states. Every transfer case in my manual states the same thing.

The transfer case in my new 2500 ram is nowhere near the same as the transfer case that’s in the 1500s with the auto feature.
These transfer cases have a totally different internal designs.

The Transfer case in my Ram 2500 is chain driven not the pressure clutch driven design.
There is zero need for a specialty Fluid is my TC.
I am not that gullible.

RL C+ will be going in at the end of summer next year. (Before Next Winter)!

To answer your question: Mopar BW44-44 special (Very High Profit) Fluid.

Unbelievable. In my 13 owner's manual it clearly states the only tcase that needs the 44-44 fluid is the 44-44. Everything else calls for ATF+4. You'll be fine with RL C+ in that you definitely don't need the unicorn tears in the part time tcase. Thanks for looking that up!

@SyN , I can't believe your 2500 HD owner's manual calls for 75W-85 GL-5 Fluid in your rear differential when my 1500 Calls for 75W-140 GL-5. ????

Like my signature states: I will be running a combo of RL 75W-90 & 140. Depending on the extra capacity of the New Cover I add I will attempt to pour in a combo of 1/2 of each. (2qts-90 & 2qts-140) as a example.

Like I have said more then a handful of times & some of U know it as well: The Manual in my mind is only a simple set of Guidelines—>Not The Ram Bible.

While towing a 12K-14Klb 5th wheel I am only going to sleep well at night knowing that I at least added a couple qts of 75W-140 in my new 11.5” rearend.
Try to hold your hand on your stock cover after pulling a 3Klb trailer for 2 hours.
You will end up with 2nd degree burns on the palm of your hand.

I think I will wait until I get 2 full winters under her belt before I drain the FF in the front Differential & refill w/RL 75W-90.

85 might do decent job with your average grocery getter drive it to church and back on Sunday Ram truck.
No way on He11s creation am I depending on it in my new ram while towing.

My gut feeling tells me they want the lighter weight to help with fuel mileage.

Thanks for bringing that up I never really paid attention due to I was going to use whatever I wanted to anyway.

That's right, if it was the Bible we wouldn't be running 5/30 or the mixes some are using.

Might even be worth a call or email to Cummins to see what they recommend for oil for the 6.7. After FCA changed the Ecodiesel to 5w40 and the fact that 5w30 makes these Hemis run better than 5w20, I really don't trust anything they recommend for viscosity
