I do all my gas cars at 5000 miles with dino oil. Don't have harsh or severe driving conditions. No oil related issues in 40 years of driving.

I change my ED at 10K with synthetic per OEM recommendations.

I go by the computer which is usually 10,000 miles. Last oil change I went 16,000, not recommended but I simply did not have the time.

According to my sticker I should perform an oil change right now. But according to dashboard indicator I have 75% oil life left. Which should I follow?
Is that Cummins diesel?

I recently purchased a 2018 in February and was at the service department at my local dealership with some questions about the park sense a few weeks back. We started talking about oil changes and he recommended going by the computer on the truck. He assured me that as long as I followed what the computer recommended, my warranty and truck would be good. Just FYI.

Running extended drains such as 10k/15k I would be hesitant to run the same filter for that long. There are some nutjobs on the BITOG forum running filters for 3 OCI's just to see how long it can last. That's insanity. The Fram Ultra seems to be their main focus. I run the larger one on my Ram and it fits, albeit tightly with the electric power steering rack. From my point of view though, if I get out the jack stands, oil pan and break the filter loose and make that mess, I might as well just change the oil at the same time. Therefore I run about 8500 miles on both with PP or Mobil 1 in the 4Runner. The latter has an awful skid plate that has to come off to access the filter. After I have that all part, I am definitely changing the oil.

I believe the M1 advertises it is good for 20,000 miles.

Oil changes are cheap in comparison. Sure the dealer is going to tell you to go with the longer (ie more damaging) interval...they're in the business of selling vehicles! If you look at your owners manual at the description severe service, just about all of us that drive in an urban setting fall into that category. Go by the severe service interval and you'll be fine. Sure modern oils can last a lot longer but the additives deplete and the filters do their job so they start to divert oil through the bypass as they plug up. IMHO

Manual says 10k miles or 12 months max.
Dealer says 3000.
Out of curiosity I called Mopar, they said go by the life meter.
I only put 6000 miles/year or less on mine, but I still change it more often than the computer says.
Cheap Insurance.

You would have to have huge problems to plug up a filter.

I don't understand wanting to push the limits of something so cheap yet protects something so expensive. I have used M1, Amsoil, Fram Ultra and Mopar oil filters. Hell if I know if either works better. I bought a case of the Fram Ultra based on reviews and materials of construction. The price per filter is super low, no need to try to run it out to high mileage. Same with oil. With Rebates I can change the oil using synthetic PP for around $30, at home. A new engine would be thousands out of pocket. Not worth it to push the limits IMO.

You're NOT pushing the limits at all. Even you at changing at 8,500 mi. If you do 2 cil changes with 1 filter you are still 3,000 miles under the max.

17k miles on an oil filter is not the smartest idea. Why would you not change it? If anything, changing the filter and running the oil longer makes more sense. That's what Amsoil recommends.

Are you an engineer? I would tend to believe an engineer.

Amsoil has 15K and 20K oil filters.

It is doubtful you could clog up an oil filter by using a 15 or 20K Amsoil filter unless you had some real bad prior problems.

Send a sample to oil analysis when you change it, that will tell you everything without a doubt.

The new synthetics can last up to 20,000 miles, but finding an oil filter to last that long is impossible, I go every 5000 miles, oil is a lot cheaper than a new engine, 300 hrs. is the max for oil change. severe use is city driving.

There is a guy on you tube who I trust more then Scott. His name is Eric. He put the oil in his car and will show the results in a year.

It's not new, Amsoil has been around for years. If you believe all the hype 25k/ 1 year.
