It sucks to be on the hook for your deductible but that's the risk we all take in driving.

If the repair actually costs $1500 and your deductible is $500 the other $1k is socialized and paid for by all the other insured drivers who weren't even in the same county as you when it happened so you can thank all of them too

I know it sucks when some stranger can ruin your day with their carelessness but life is messy like that for everyone. Usually best to be thankful nothing irreplaceable was lost, dust off your jeans and move forward.

What a response, I never get cards or thanked by others using my "Socialized" money. And I think the other driver was a little more than "Careless" he is a FN bum that will take no responsibility for his actions, both in hitting him and living off the system.

If you don't have any Valid Drivers License, current Insurance, License Plates & 1 or 2 other things, the Police tell you to remove your personal items, because the vehicle is going into Impound.
The violations have to be taken care of & then then the court releases the vehicle & you have to pay the Tow Companies fees.

The city police here set up check points just for License, Registration, Insurance & Seatbelts

I wish that they would set up cameras along my street, to catch the speeders, mostly people who until a few years ago never had a vehicle

I hope you are correct, but from what I have seen the real applications is that nothing is done to punish the offender.

Maybe instead of going after the people go after the cars. Can't hit someone with an impounded vehicle. I say if you are caught without insurance suspend the registration and the car should be impounded by a private tow company. You can't get the car back until you show up at the ow lot with a valid registration and pay all towing and storage fees. Once towing and storage fees exceed the value off the car, the towing company owns and dispose of it as they see fit.

California actually had passed a state law to impound vehicles when it was found out that the vehicle was not insured. Too many poor and/or minorities were having vehicles impounded. So that was stopped. Many of those vehicles impounded also had liens on them. Folk tend not to make payments on impounded vehicles.

In 2010/11 there was a big controversy while I was in CA about that impound law. The politicians complained loudly that poor and minorities were being unfairly harmed. And I thought they stopped it completely.

A lot depends on what state you are in. But there should be avenues of recourse.
But the driver should have been arrested in the spot for driving w/no or suspended license, fraudulent use of vehicle tags, on top of the no insurance.
And in most states, the OWNER of the vehicle can be held liable for the driver.

You should have a copy of the police report with most I do you will need. And yes, you can speak to the local prosecuting attorney about filing charges, but they may not be interested.

One would think the lien holder would be happy the vehicle is impounded for no insurance since it would protect their asset from being devalued in an uninsured accident. Every vehicle finance contract I have seen states not maintaining adequate insurance coverage is a breach of the contract and the vehicle is subject to repossession.

Yes it is usually a contractual requirement to maintain insurance. Now they have to pay to get it back from impound, which usually means also paying the fees for the infraction before the vehicle is released.

Got the repair estimate back, $3700. Also said 14 days for repair.

No rental on my policy, so have to deal with being without.

A lot of times it’s because there’s no police report. And you end up with both parties pointing the finger at each other. Who has the right of way is questionable in parking lots sometimes too. The dash cam should help unless it happens while backing up.

Parking lot situations suck. In no-fault states like NY, it doesn't matter how blatantly obvious someone is at fault in a parking lot fender bender.

I want one too, but since he T-boned me, it wouldnt see much. I was right in front of him when he pulled out.

Oh, and I found out he is on probation, and hasn't paid fines on previous tickets over last 1-1/2 years or so, which is why license is suspended, but cop gives ticket for unknowingly suspended (no way he didn't know).

Might just give his PO a ring.

I have UM coverage, covers everything BUT my collision deductible. Don't have rental on my policy either.

Honestly I think my thinkware f200 is the best bang for your buck. Has front and back and had GPS that tells you where speed traps are and red light cameras. It has wifi so you can download videos to your phone. Or you can remove memory card. For like $20 you can the hardwire kit but make sure to buy the longer one. Ask me how I know!

I hard wired it so I have motion detection and also has a sensor to start filming if I get bumped. If it senses an accident it’ll saved that video in a separate file so it doesn’t get deleted.

Amazing camera. But I wish I spent an extra couple hundred and got a model up. One with a better rear camera. At night the back one is not the best

Blackvue is the cream of the crop tho.


For hardwire I used fuse taps. The “constant” is in the USB fuse that’s in my centre console as it’s always “on” even when off. And my “switched” fuse is the Cig lighter plug. Grounded it inside the cab and voila! Ran the wires for the back into headliner and across the back window.

INSTALL TIP. Make sure the connection at the rear camera is the one with a 90 angle. I did mine backward at first.
