You are on it dude. Much Appreciated. Are you thinking of just adding an additional line out or disconnecting the mic that's present now?

Disconnect the existing mic, I see no advantage to keeping it in there. I did just come across this pin out from another thread on here (searching through google) from someone requesting a speaker pin out for 2016 truck. Wondering if it's the same if so, the dual mics are 29/30 and 39/40 on the connector.

I’m not worried about the mic for me, I never use that function anyway. My main things are being able to change the background image, and then some of these other quirks like the temperature in Celsius and the kmh stuff I couldn’t handle. And I imagine I’d find the 30 second boot time annoying.

The only real functionality loss for me would be no more Sirius. Which I listen to now cause it was free for the first year. But I won’t pay for it.

I appreciate you guys keeping us informed and letting us follow along. Big help for those of us interested in it.

Already done this, there is a PCB on the bottom which has two solder points for the mic.

@SitKneelBend if you can find me a pinout of the wiring harness that shows where the hell the mic is I'll certainly try. I've had no luck finding it yet though.
I'm asking some others whom I think will know via PM.

I'll post up once I manage to swap up the image and if I get the answer on the time issue. Temperature in celcius is a quick fix in the menus, mine for some reason is displaying a wrong temperature once I switch to fahrenheit but i think that's more of an isolated situation. Switching to MPH and miles is also a simple menu setting.

For the Sirius especially if you're on the trial you have the app access as part of that trial. Been using it and works great it's actually a better product I think than their radio version. I'll see if/when I hit my 2GB limit on the prepaid hotspot I'm using but I'm pretty sure once I do hit that limit I just get bumped to slower speeds which shouldn't really affect audio playback for me. I'm using both spotify and sirius for music streaming now.

The Metric/US unit issues have been figured out and fixed. The background image looks like it can be handled as well. I've downloaded a car launcher (search for those in the play store) which replaces the background image. The boot image which is currently the two tone Ram can also be easily set to default, getting rid of that.
The boot time is a bit lengthy and the only time I find it inconvenient is when it's 0°F outside and I want to change the climate control right when I hop in. That being said, when it's that chilly out I've probably already remote started the truck.

Dual mics.... that's interesting. Excuse my ignorance, but do our trucks have more than one in the cab somewhere?

I hope the background image is easily sorted cause if the rest is sortable then I’m pretty sold on them. I just think they look cool and are different than the 8.4s. Sadly I don’t have remote start but I’ve been looking at the Fortin brand ones to add that to my truck.

2 are located in the rearview mirror.

Stereo microphone in the rearview camera. That's the stock uconnect setup. If I was going to try and top into it I'd probably only try hooking it up as mono as I'm not sure it would help to try and connect both to this setup.

Thanks guys, sorry I should have googled that haha.
Take a look at this https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...gwAHoECAQQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0g6zeIXQ8K0AMN936Bhfoethread. It's pretty short and no real end solution but related. It may not apply as they were attempting to connect to the stock HU.

Here you go...
17 Ram 1500 Handsfree schematic (attached).

Note: 13-16 Trucks had the 2 Mics as part of the mirror (passing through the connector behind pass. air vent) and 2017/2018 they moved them to the headliner over the front 2 seats (passing through the connector behind driver air vent). Both end up at the same pinout at the radio. (Pins 29/30 and 39/40)

Appreciate it for sure @Mpgrimm2. Only thing I'm not sure about though is do they make their way to the physical head unit OR are they incorporated into something else, I took a look at the other schematics mpgrimm2 shared and can't find anything that shows that giant radio harness to confirm.

Well waited over night (as usual) for my emails and they were useless. @61N150W are your units in Celsius or Fahrenheit on your unit? If Fahrenheit do they display properly? Here is my issue
1) 100+ degrees (clearly wrong) and 2) in the pop up the passenger just shows as "hi" or "low"

So I have the 2017 model so my mics are in the headliner (always wondered what those were!) Popped it out and got the part number

At less than $30 I'm thinking it may be worth seeing if I can just "snip snip" and run this directly to the head unit versus trying to tap into it somewhere else down the line.

it's too bad these units are working they way they were advertised. It looked like a great unit...fancy, but man with all those problems I dunno if it's worth it.

Both mics are at the back of the radio at pins 29/30 & 39/40 as previously posted by others. You can download the full 17 schematics in the thread I linked previously if you want to see the actual radio schematics (part off the"Body" section).

Hmm, I don't have that climate control issue. Both sides show a max of 95°F. But like you mentioned I had to reverse the units from "American" to Metric in one spot to get my cluster to display right; then set the units to US in another menu to get the HU to read properly.

Thank you for confirming!!! I had found the 29/30 39/40 just wasn't sure if that was correct on these units. Thank you so much seriously!

Alright, got my mic in today and did a TON of testing. Sadly in trying to change settings I somehow lost my reverse camera. Works great if I pull it up manually or shift into reverse before the unit finished booting. But once it's booted "no signal" hopefully can get this fixed easily as it HAS TO BE from something I did my self in the menus. Onto the microphone:

Step 1) Desolder the red and black wires that connect the stock micrphone from the PCB that has the reset, hazard, and mic attached. I went ahead and soldered in it's place a short pigtail with a female 3.5mm mono connector so I could easily test things and attach mics.

IDEA 1)
So, I went ahead and tried tapping into the stereo mics using the info provided by @Mpgrimm2 (HUGE THANK YOU!). I did get a signal but it must require decoding or something, unusable. So then I moved onto trying JUST one mic and tapping into at the mic source, pulled the headliner down a bit unplugged the mic from the stock harness plugged it into my own and no luck, very quiet signal probably needs an amplifier and or decoding.

RESULT: THe pinouts above are correct but the factory dual microphones appear to need some sort of signal processing.

IDEA 2) use the microphone above that I ordered as a replacement. Pretty simple to test and IT WORKED! Way better quality. Mounting it was the next thing to figure out. I popped the microphone out of the black cylinder and tried mounting it where the stock microphone mounts in the headliner (for the 2017/2018 that's where the dual mics are, not in the mirror) but the quality wasn't as good, I have a feeling the headliner and roof of the truck added some unwanted sound. So I pulled JUST the mic out from the stock location and sure enough sounds great. Is it a bit unsightly? Sure, but way better than sticking a microphone on the A pillar or sun visor I feel.
View attachment 119410
RESULT: Useable mic, pretty happy with how it sounds.

Original Microphone in unit (note this sounds better than what I originally posted, turns out the app I was using as a dashboard has "use speakerphone" on for bluetooth calls, so this is with that feature off slightly better)

New Microphone

Final results: you be the judge but I think it sounds better.
Thanks so much for doing this, so the conclusion: the original microphone is unusable with this radio even if I solded directly to the mic (in the radio) entry?
