Oil percent .what does that mean ?

So my daughter has this 2023 Grand waggoneer and is freaking out because here oil message says 0 percent .
I'm thinking that it's a ne way of saying when to change the oil..
Could some one talk me thru this so I have some clue for when I get home and I might know what I'm talking about .

Oil life.... I believe this takes synthetic oil.... and on my wife's Ram is is every 5,000 miles and on my Camery it needs to be changes every 10,000 miles . What is the mileage between changes ?

Cherokee with a 5.7, we change ours every 5K miles. If her oil percentage is showing 0, she is well past time to change her oil. Mine still shows ballpark 45% at 5K. That or they didn't reset it back to 100% at the last oil change.

Remember the oil change thing needs to be reset each time the oil is
changed. Chances are that was not performed and now it shows Zero.
How many miles since the oil was changed ? If you don't know that, then
I feel sorry for you.....

According to the manual, it is not "just" a counter
It takes into consideration how the vehicle is driven and at what speed and all

I know I changed my oil at 96370 miles and reset the time

I think I'm at around 99200 now, I'll double check and report back what my percentage says, that should give you an idea how long my oil should last

On my truck, each 1% represents 100 miles driven (it varies slightly), and after 10,000 miles, the alert pops up on my dash saying I need to change my oil soon. I run only synthetic and have never had an issue - when the dealer was giving me free oil changes, I would take it in every 5000K miles, but RN I'm doing it every 10K.

Edit: To clarify, when I change the oil, my % is at 100%, and it decrements to 0% over 10,000 miles. The oil % should be reset every time you change the oil.

There is no way a 2023 anything should have run down to 0% in this short of a time, unless you've driven round-trip across the US 2 or 3 times. I'm thinking it didn't get set to zero at the factory.

10K on oil, U running a Hummer? With all the cam issues and lifter issues, I would not go beyond 7,500. As far as the idjut oil reminder, need say ne more> That is all computer algorithm BS. All depends upon how U drive, terrain, towing, dusty, hot, cold, but there is no way I follow a idjut reading/gauge/reading choose a name. But no way go beyond 7,500, but that is just my very humble opinion.

But OP and Black-Wolf, yer trucks, wateva makes U happy.

Screw the idjut message and gauge. Ask yer daughter:
1) How many miles on odometer now
2) Mileage at last oil change
3) DO math and U know right away if U got issue or not (either not reset and/or somebody may not be taking care of vehicle and paying attention)
4) Did U look at oil: pull dipstick and look at oil: Black, real dark, kinda clear, foamy, sticky, smell burnt.
5) Pull oil cap and look under: Clean, just oil on it, or foamy, all indicators.

All of the above should get you where U need to be to make informed decision. And, IMHO, use Full Synthetic and Full Synth filter also. But that is just IMHO.
IF u have any doubts, get the oil-filter done if nothing else for minds rest and insure idjut oil reminder reset. Never wait for idjut oil reminder: Set a schedule- Change at 5,000 or 7,500 at the most and stick to it, just saying. Dang oil changes on these 5.7's so important.

Just checked mine, at 99151 miles the oil is at 42%

That means 2781 miles represents 48% of oil life, that's 58 miles per %
Or, 5800 miles per oil change

That's on a 2500 with the 5.7, and there are some hard miles on that, since it's winter and I plow with it

Would be interesting to see what @Black-Wolf drives and how his habits are different from mine, but on the surface, it seems the algorithms make sense

LOL. No - but full syn does allow you to run longer w/o an oil change - I drive long distances (120+/day on average) with the truck - mostly long stretches of steady speeds, which is easier than city driving on the engine (now watch me have to eat those words!) - Also, headers are NOT affected by oil changes. Cams are. The dealer can't void a warranty for following the idiot gauge. By law - if they recommend 10K or less between changes, then they have to allow for warranty claims if that's how often you change your oil. Also, my oil always looks pretty good when I change it - it's dark, sure, but not burnt, no debris in it, drains smoothly. High quality filters also help.

I know what act You are referring to ref vehicle warranty. I would not wanna bet my vehicle on that act, but than I am in TX, lmao. Sometimes, defensive driving skills necessary: Cows, goats, sheep, stray dogs, skunks, DEER, other idjut drivers, lmao.

BUT yer ride suh, do as wat makes U happy. OP needs to do quick investigation skills, I tried to list steps for him to look, so if there is a problem, nip dat sucker in the bootay, lol.

I do not think there is a problem Just a uniformed person miss reading the idiot light.
All work has been done by dealers under warranty still so If they goofed up it's covered.

Turn the ignition to "Run" but don't start the engine,and then step on the gas pedal 3 times in fairly short order,turn ignition off,open and close door,and that should reset the oil minder.
