Thank you everyone!!! I have decided to NOT change the 3.21 to the 3.92. Now it is off to the ram dealer. I will report back on my purchase.
Merry Christmas to all!!!!!

I think that will be a wise choice. From what I have read, FCA has way more inventory than they should have right now. Their new inventory system is not working as they hoped. If you can't get at least $8k off of sticker, go to another dealer! You should be able to get $10-12k or more off of a 19 sitting on the lot. With too much inventory & it being end of year, they should be very motivated to move vehicles! Oh & don't let them screw you on your trade in. They like to show you "hey look, I took $10k off your new truck!" And then give you way under blue book value for your trade in.

I am looking for honest answers to my dilemma...should I keep my 1500 or trade.
The Ram is a 2018 tradesman 3.6L v6 8spd with a gross weight of 6025#s, max load weight of 1485#s, wheel base of 120", and a 3.21 rearend. Next week the Ram dealer is to change out the 3.21 to a 3.92 which I had special ordered.
The trailer I just bought and pick it up Jan 8th is a 26' TT with a gross weight of 7300#s and a tongue weight of 837#s. Unloaded weight is 5900#s. It is only my wife and me so I doubt if we would ever load more than 500#s.
My question: should I proceed with the rearend change or change to another Ram? And if I change, to what??? The dealer said they would ship the parts back if I decide to buy another Ram. They have a 2019 new 2500 at $40k with tow package, 4wd, and offroad package, and also two 2016 1500 diesels at $32-34k with around 30k miles.
I think a Hemi powered 1500 with 3.92 would be exactly what you are looking for. I have a 2017 Big Horn Crew Cab 4x4 with that drivetrain and have towed right up to the 10,000 lb limit and it handled it great.

Good Choice. You would not enjoy the pull with your current truck. I Pull a 30' TT with my 1500. Gross Trailer is 7,500# and i would not go higher. 99% of the time, it is an easy drive/pull. Heavy cross winds are another story.

if you tow more often than not, go 2500. I had a hemi 1500. My travel trailer is about 8000 lbs. My work trailer is a bit more. a year into ownership, I made the switch to a 2500 with a 6.4 hemi. Lost a bunch of money but lesson learned.

the 1500 pulled the trailers OK but everything else felt a bit too much 'white knuckle'. when the trailer weighs more than the tow vehicle, it really effects the dynamics of turning, stopping, swaying…

towing, gas mileage is a moot point, they both suck. as a daily driver, the 1500 really is better on gas. probably about 5-6 mpg better with my city/highway driving. having said that, you only need to poop your pants once and 5-6 mpg seems a small price to pay.

I have a 1500 ecodiesel W/ 3.92s. My travel trailer is #5900 dry and 28'. This handles the trailer with ease. As others said bigger is better. But for what you are into. A half ton with a V8 or ecodiesel will tow this just fine. Even on mountain grades I can still maintain 65mpg with power in reserve.

However if you ever wish to upgrade your couples trailer. The 2500 will make more since.

Uh-oh... that’s the equivalent of going to one of the best adult toy stores. ;)

Seriously, with the deals that are being offered, a new vehicle is certainly worth considering (as long as the offered trade-in value is reasonable.

I received a card in the mail from the place where I bought my truck (not completely paid off yet) 2.5 years and 29,000 miles ago. They offered just over $48,000 for my 2017 Laramie 2500 CTD toward a new 2019 of the same model and engine for a difference of $20,000. While very slightly tempting, I decided to not even go and look. Heck, I just put a grand’s worth of new tires on my truck, which is in otherwise excellent condition. Had this been a couple of years later, maybe... or not.

Does the EcoDiesel 1500 have an exhaust brake (like the larger Cummins equipped models)? If so, it would certainly help with braking and stopping, although I would not want to tow any trailer that is too heavy with a 1500... even if infrequently or for short distances.

NO, no exhaust/jake brake setup on the ED. Up until recently, PPL were using GDE and getting a tune put on (their ECM re-programmed) (which added a better cruise set up, basically turned off EGR, etc), with gearing like ref exhaust brake. But with the CARB lawsuit and EPA, looks like GDE had to duck for cover. Unknown what their status gonna be.....

Well done.... :)

I've always thought the Avalanche was a modern day Pacer.

It was my wife's vehicle. She liked it a lot. They are very popular here in SC. Still see tons of them.

But yes, it was an odd one for sure. Want to see odd. Put a camper shell on one.

TOO EASY AN ANSWER:

2500 is the way to go. More torque, capabilities, just the 6.4 will drink more fuel than the 1500....
The diesels: NO, unless U were to do a lot of mods. The ED's just had too many issues and with CARB AND EPA, who knows with the mandatory fixes. STAY away from ED, get the 2019 6.4... ALl IMHO and I had an ED and went to a Hemi, but all IMHO.....

I pulled a '19 Minnie Plus 26' trailer (6300 lbs dry) from Michigan to Vancouver BC and back with my '19 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7 with tow package. Camping World sold it with an E2 load-leveling anti-sway hitch. White knuckles for the first 100 miles. Wind was pushing me all over. Replaced the hitch with a Camco Recurve R3 and finished the trip. I felt safe and no problems the restt of the trip. *-speed tranny was wonderful both up and down 7% grades. Previously I had a 3500 dually Cummins pulling a fifth-wheel, so I still have some getting used to my new rig, but I just keep the speed down a little to feel safe. A better hitch might provide even better handling, but so far I love my 1500 Limited and the Minnie Plus.

Get a 2500 crew for towing. I did and it's a good choice for what you towing. It will tow the trailer effortlessly and handle better, way beyond what the 1500 reg cab short bed can.
I trailered my similar trailer with '17 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the 5.7 and towing package. I know its different vehicles but wheelbase and braking capacity are similar. It "towed" the trailer fine but, as I upgraded trailer equipment adding solar and battery banks etc the added weight effected what I was comfortable with handling wise.

Just fyi changing gear ratios does in fact change tow ratings across all truck models ! All you have to do is look it up ? Factory tow rating are drastically changed bye gear ratios and 3.22 to 3.92 is a huge difference .
