Yeah, but you still had to stop, get out and put locks in.
I wouldnt ask that hahahahaha, im "old school" i dont go over 55 while 4x4 is engaged. Then again i also have the 44-45No kidding , your going down the road at 80mph and it starts to snow. You want to know if it's safe to hit auto 4wd. Slow down and put it in 4 auto. No offense to you but that looks like a question a 20 year old would ask, not someone your age.
I've thrown mine in 4A at 60MPH, I don't like this transfer case though, wish I had just a basic part time.
Why?
My guess is, with the old basic t-case, 4wd is 4wd..pure mechanical hookup.
But with these new fangled ones, there are clutches between the power & the front axle such that if those clutches fail, you won't have 4wd at all.
What happens when a chain fails on the mechanical ones? Or, when a gear chips a tooth? Don't those fail too?
Why?
Liked it at first, but know I hate it. It's always engaged, hurts my MPG and I never use it, well, I used it to launch off a light this evening, but other than that don't wan't it. I want 4WD or 2WD not constant, I would've bought a Subaru if I wanted AWD.
you think the 4x4 system is always engaged on the bw44-44 ? lol.... tell me your trolling.
I don't troll, however I can make an exception.
Okay so, the bw44-44 has 5 different modes.
2WD, 4 Auto ( AWD type system ), 4 lock ( which is just 4 hi ),and 4 low, which is 4WD with a lower gear ratio.
Unless you actually select 4 auto, the "AWD" type system isn't activated. Why would you think it's always on? The buttons on the dashboard specifically state, 4WD, or 2WD... why not just put it in 2WD if you don't always want it on ?
I'm aware of this, I've already gone through this ordeal with a Mopar tech at my local dealer. He said when 2WD is selected, the clutches still engage intermittently. My TC is NV246D BTW not 44-44, however, since we're on the topic I managed to find clutch delete kit so now I can quit crying.
