I don't think I would be able to hear the gears over
1) tires
2)exhaust
3) volume knob -

If those 3 things can't drown out that gear hum, then Yes the yukons may be better-

Gear sets that make a lot of noise are either not setup properly, poorly machine, or a combination of the two. If a gear set keeps getting louder the is a problem.
Agreed

From what I've found so far, they have all been about the same. The $45/set lifetime warranty on the Yukon might be worth it, but I found the Nitro complete front and rear package on ebay right now for $1268 shipped. I need to get the 4.88 re-quoted from RRP as I got the 4.56's quoted first.

As it stands right now:

AAM 4.44 complete $1082 (I believe 1 yr std warranty)
Yukon 4.56 complete $1532 lifetime warranty(4.88 should be cheaper based on list prices)
Nitro 4.88 complete $1268 (2yr warranty)

Unless you are sure your doing 35 or 37 inch tires going from 3.73's to 4.88's is a huge jump , do all of your homework before making your decision

So I ordered the 4.88 on my 6.4 snow Cheif 3500 it has the 33" stock tires having a good shop do the install just was wondering did you do anything special when you were complete if your break in ?? My math says 6 th gear at 65 mph will be 2002 rpm with the 4.88 that's great for me

I would make several short runs under 25 miles and take 1/2 hr break in between, then take it easy for close 500 miles at that point you should be good to go. would be a good idea to change fluid at 500 or 1000 miles.

Yeah short drives and change fluid and inspect gears around 500. I personally babied it for around 450 miles before getting on it quite a few times and changing fluid, and inspecting gears right around 500 miles. In my mind I wanted to run it hard a few times before the gears were inspected

Thank you so much, up here in alaska people have been thinking that i am crazy for doing this, the yukon gears and install costing around 3200$ but in AK with shipping and such its not to bad, so I also ordered the Pedal commander What setting's do you like with the 4.88 gears?? i am just hoping that it tows my 14k 5th wheel better then it does now with the 373 gear shift to first climbing hills is not acceptable to me.

I'm sure it will tow it better but don't expect miracles out of a gas truck towing a diesel load.

I run mine at sport +4. Mine isn't a daily driver tho, it's just a toy. It's more than likely getting a 3,000 stall next spring to go with the gears.

Nah. The 4.10s should be standard in this truck. That's what I have, and I'm going to 4.56 or 4.88 on stock tires. Haven't decided which yet.

I do have to say that with my combo my truck will flat out destroy a set of 35's. I was provoked by a cummins owner at the big yearly cruise in that my town does.

Well the truck has been dropped off at Youngs Gear in Anchorage AK they have been around for 25 plus years so a very good shop they said that they would do two test drives IE heat cycles before my wife picks it up and drive the 50 plus miles home,, I installed the pedal commander and Im not that impressed i can sure feel the difference in the touch of the peddle but i find that i just leave it in city plus 1. i bet with the new gears i might like it more.

So the next ???'s are tire size? i do not want to lift or change factory rims I have had mine rhino lined black and love the look, so 285 70 r 18 looks to be my only option, but im not opposed to fender flairs and trimming to clear just cant increase height more the 3-4 in to clear garage door. any suggestions with tire size??

You can clear a 34" tire with no issues- you are gonna love the gears.

I run 285 75 R 18 Toyo OC AT2.
NO rubbing at all with my factory 18's and no lift.
I have since raised my truck 3" in front and 1.5" in rear.
Great tire.

I didn't want to go any taller so I went with a 325/60R18 on factory wheel. They are 33.4x12.8 vs the factory 33.2x10.8. Mine is factory height. They will stick out slightly w/o fender flares.

So the shop just called me they told me they need to change out the front carrier, what i was told is that there is two different carriers used in the front axle one is for the 3.52 to the 3.73 gear ratio's not sure on the 3.52, the other carrier is for the 4.44 and 4.88 that come in the cab and chassis models, they have one coming and should be done by the end of the week. im out of town so i told them take there time and do it right the first time. I'm unsure about exactly what this mean in ref. to the carrier swap, it just an open spider gear inside must have something to do with how the ring gear seats in the carrier. this is a 2016 ram 3500 6.4 hemi with the snow chief package, they told me over the phone that it was there fault for not enough research and the carrier will only be 250$ more, i instructed them to please keep all of my old parts and when completed give me a complete break down of parts and labor, so i can be more informed about the swap., i will keep updating as i get them.

Not like it matters at this point but it would have been fine, you are the first one to have someone actually say that. The diff case is labeled that it will only go to 3.73 or 4.10 but there is enough play in the adjusters to compensate for the thinner ring gear.
