Maybe a tad at around 30mph but can't tell if it's that or my tires so it's not bad if any. Anyone know if are front gears spin in 2 wheel drive?

Yes front diff turns all the time in one way or another if wheels are turning, but is only driven by pinion when fwd is engeauged.

To my knowledge both the inner and outer axle shafts turn all the time. The passenger side is a 2 piece design with an electronic disconnect in the middle. This causes only everything outside of the disconnect to turn in 2wd.
The driver side I would assume because of the disconnect on passenger side that the entire axle shaft turns on the driver side all the way into the carrier in the diff but spinning only the spider gear on that side.

I remember as a jeeper always throwing away axles with cad and here we go again putting them on 2500-3500. Is this on every new model?

2014's and newer. I don't know a lot about it other than that. I can say that I wish Ram used the same 4x4 system as Ford.

The system uses a two piece shaft on the pass side with a sleeve that slides over them making it one piece. This creates a weaker shaft then a solid one.

I have around 250 miles on it. The slight noise I did have is totally gone. I haven't had it above 3500 rpm. Honestly with me babying it the difference isn't as large as I expected. I wanna get on it hard so bad but I'm trying to wait out the 500 miles. Don't think I'm gonna make it. I'll tell u tho at this point I wish I would have put the money in a thuren suspension instead.

I have been doing rpm calculators comparing my current 4.10 gears to 4.56 to the Ford 4.30 geared trucks. If I switch to 4.56 I feel it would put me in the sweet spot for rpm while towing. More or less hold 5th gear most of the time. 6th more or less being a double overdrive would not be used in the Ford either most of the time. If I switched to a Ford gasser I would have to start over on a note again and cost me like 10k more in price. Spending the 2500 or so to regear sounds a bit more reasonable. Not sure if my wife would be to keen on it though. My dad says to just get a diesel and get it over with. He runs an 03 6.0 power stroke. I want a truck that will last a long time with very little drama. I like to put fuel in it and go. KISS method if you will.

I agree that the 4.56 6.4 is the general rpm equivalent to the 4.30 6.2 Ford. I had one other 6.2 and it was a 3.73. The 4.30's are night and day better. I would be willing to try a 4.10 6.4 but wish Ram offered the 4.44 like they do in the chassis. I can imagine how poorly the 3.73 hemi performs compared to a 4.10 or lower.

I'm in the 3.73 Hemi towing an 11K 5th wheel out west with lots of hills. So, I pretty much have the worst of it :) That being said it's not like I struggle to move or can't climb hills. It's just not as good as it could be.

I've labored over many of the same decisions being talked about - Diesel? Re-gear? Better gasser (Ford 4.30)? In the end my truck does well enough that I'm going to stick with it for now. I was really thinking of re-gearing.... 14 pages ago when I started this thread :)

I think I've decided against putting that much money into this truck. The tranny just sucks too much for me. I'm sure with the gear swap it would be better but it's just a band aid. Ram should be ashamed for pairing ratios intended for a diesel on a gas motor. But it is what it is. I really don't tow that much comparatively and as a daily driver my truck is 98% perfect. Once a week or so the tranny does something that ****** me off but in the whole grand scheme of things that's not too bad. Hell, my wife, kids, employees and/or clients **** me off daily so once a week isn't that bad :):)

My gear sets showed up today, now to find time to them installed, maybe a week or months till that happens. I went though pages of gear calculations, 3-6 gear and 45-75 mph. I was planning on 4.88's but turned out when towing our 36' TT (10K) that 5th gear would be almost same rpm's as 4th gear with 4.10's. When towing the TT truck spends a lot of time in 4th. Also I tow 5 days a week for work 6-8k and 500-600 miles a week with in 25 miles of home. So end result I settled on 4.44's or 4.56's, I wound up getting 4.44's because I got a great deal on genuine AAM gear sets $540 for both diffs. Can't wait to get them in but work is pretty busy right now, will probably do back and then do front later.

Only in 3-6th. Ram 1st gear is 3.23, the new 6R100 has 4.17 first. The 66RFE is 3.23:1. The Ram would need 5.55:1 to equal it a 6.2 with 4.30

5.48 rear gear to equal Ford 4.30 in 2nd
4.63 in 3rd
4.92 in 4th
4.55 in 5th
4.72 in 5th

Just an update. Been driving the truck like I did before the install and holy cow worth every penny now. Truck is a total beast when using the skinny metal. Just ordered the pedal commander this evening to go along with it

Great to hear, but I'm sure the boys here would like to hear you quantify your comments a little further. Ya hear?

How's it better? How's it on the hills? Have you towed with it yet? Etc., etc.

Discuss.
