Ok so is there a way to convert the distributor into something more modern that doesn't require a rotor and cap like our engines have? I've heard vaguely about something or other about a conversation of some sort, but I don't know much about it. Kinda hard to explain it though because I don't really know what I'm talking about. Like is there a way to use coil packs or something?

I'll try to find the post I read. I found it but didn't pay much attention to detail. Now I wish I would have.

Dude...that's gonna be a complete pain. Way more effort and cash than you're going to be willing to spend. Plus you have to change the PCM to work with it.

Well what exactly is the process, and what is a ballpark price? We talking a couple hundred or a thousand something?

Thousand. You'd need a custom PCM and probably custom heads for starters.

Ok I found the write up. It's not exactly what I was talking about lol. But it's about mechanical and vacuum advance distributors.

Regarding deleting the distributor and going straight coil packs? Sounds like a Chevy. lol. Not something easily done on a Dodge.

No no no. Lol. My bad. I meant what's the difference between mechanical and vacuum advance distributors, and is there a way to do it to our trucks. I heard one has better throttle response or something or other. I'm not sure what it was. I just remember reading something on it.

Vac or mech advance is going backwards for our trucks, plus there will be no trigger for the injectors. If you feel the need to mess with timing advance you need to get a SCT tuner.

This is a long way from coil packs like I thought you were talking about.

My bad my bad lmao.. hell, I didn't know what I was talking about for a second. So the mec and vac is pretty much a dead subject for our trucks then. I just read briefly about it and had a thought. I normally don't have those for this reason lmao

Half the time I can't find the stuff I want to know about because I don't know what it is. So i can't figure out how to search for it. Hence me joining this forum.

Thats the nice thing about forums ask what you don't know and there will be someone to help explain it to you.

I know it's dry reading but the FSM is a great place to learn about our trucks and motors.
